A Petition to Sign & Share and a Kitty to Adopt #charitytuesday

Please don't look away.

These cats in the US need you now!

PLEASE SIGN AND SHARE THIS PETITION

END BARBARIC CAT DISSECTION IN AMERICA’S SCHOOLS

This is absolutely shocking and heartbreaking. Most cat lovers are probably unaware that this barbaric cruelty is still going on in the 21st Century πŸ˜ΏπŸ’”

How can any person do this? Horrific and no need!😑😾

From Ladyfreethinker.com

America’s schools and universities are responsible for the killing of thousands of cats, using the animals’ lifeless bodies for dissection in a practice that is completely outdated and unnecessary.
The cats whose lives are callously tossed away are often lost pets, ferals or shelter animals who are injected with formaldehyde and vacuum-sealed in plastic bags so students can cut them up in science class.
In some horrifying cases, the corpses are abused in student “games.” Online videos have exposed students using dead cats in a choreographed “dance,” and jumping rope with the intestines of dissected felines. In one video, the corpse of a cat is placed on a car windshield as a practical joke.
The fact that many medical schools no longer use animal dissection indicates there is absolutely no need for this barbaric practice.
Not only is dissection borne from animal abuse, but it encourages young people to de-value the lives of animals, and desensitizes students to animal suffering.
Sign this petition to urge the United States Secretary of Education to ban cat dissection in all places of learning and use humane alternatives to teach science in America’s classrooms."

Charity Tuesday: A British Kitty and a Greek Kitty Looking for Their Forever Homes

We are sharing two rescue cats today who are looking for their forever home. One is from the UK and he is at Wood Green The Animals Charity and the other is from Nine Lives Greece in Greece!

Winston

PHOTO: Wood Green, The Animals Charity

This playful boy is Winston and he says he has a lot of love to give. He is so handsome, isn't he, lady kitties? Winston wants a home where he can have all the love and affection he deserves. He would much prefer to be the only pet in his new home so he can steal all the attention (I don't blame him). Find out more about Winston HERE. Don't forget to check out his video below!

And now let's meet this sweet little girl kitty from Greece.

Molly

rescue kitten
PHOTO: Nine Lives Greece

Molly is a 6-month-old female kitten who is looking for a home. She tells me that she was found near a Greek taverna together with her sister Kim who was badly injured. Poor Molly was found dehydrated from starvation and she had a respiratory infection. The vet said it was a matter of days before she would die. But thank the gods she managed to survive under the vet’s care. Though she was timid at the beginning she's now very calm and enjoys cuddles and playtime with her sister. A loving home where she feels safe and loved is needed for this pretty girl and she needs to be an indoor kitty. Find out more about her HERE

Cat Confidential #bookreview

Here is a great book for all cat lovers we'd love to tell you about.

Cat Confidential: expert advice on how to understand your furry feline by renowned cat counsellor Vicky Halls

From Amazon:

"You love your cat – and you hope your cat loves you too – but cats and their owners can often misunderstand each other. The cat says one thing and the owner hears another. Mostly, it feels right but, sometimes, something can go very wrong. How do you really know if your pampered pet wants a stroke behind the ears, or whether that insistent miaow is trying to communicate something more complex? If you’ve ever wondered why your cat does the things it does – soils in the house, picks a fight with the cat next door, feels nervous around strangers or destroys your furniture – then this is the book you have to read.
Renowned cat counsellor Vicky Halls has changed the lives of thousands of owners and their problem cats. Filled with intriguing case studies, amazing facts and practical advice, Cat Confidential answers all your questions so that you can understand your feline friend better. Fascinating, funny and heart-warming, it's your chance to explore the unique bond between you and your cat. Catisfaction guaranteed."

Kitty Karma Cat Tales #ThursdayThoughts

As animal rescue advocates, we just had to share this wonderful crowdfunding campaign from Kitty Karma Books which aims to cover publishing and production costs for Kitty Karma: Big Stories of Small Cats Who Change Our Lives. Proceeds from book sales will go directly to benefit three needy cat shelters.

Cat tales fund shelters for abandoned, unwanted felines in need

The campaign began October 1 so it's not too late to donate. Your donation will help raise funds to cover publishing and production costs of Kitty Karma: Big Stories of Small Cats Who Change Our Lives.  The pre-campaign is now live and affords opportunities to sign up and receive 10% discount on campaign contributions.

The book’s collection of stories, donated for free by nearly two dozen authors, will feature tales of adventure cats and feral cats; cats who are sailing on high seas off the coasts of New Zealand and Mexico; and a cat sanctuary located in a war zone. Readers will learn about a popular cat cafΓ© in Ontario, Canada as well the first cat cafΓ© in India.

The book will be published and available for sale in November. All net proceeds from book sales will be donated to support three incredible cat shelter charities – Il Gattaro D’aleppo in Syria, Abay Kitties of Hawaii, and Whangatamata CAT in New Zealand.

What is the book about?

Kitty Karma: Big Stories of Small Cats Who Change Our Lives is a heart-warming and heart-rending collection of stories that unveils a world of cats rarely seen and rarely known, and the book’s remarkable editorial contributors are united by one simple thing: a fierce and passionate love for cats.  Contributors include:
· Siglinda Scarpa: An Italian artist and animal rights activist founder and primary benefactor for cat sanctuary The Goathouse Refuge in Pittsboro, North Carolina.
· Alessandra Abidin: A Lebanese-born violinist with degrees in political science and international relations, who works in Switzerland and other countries in the field of immigration and war crimes.
· Lori Ostlund and Anne Raeff. The only writing couple to have individually won the Flannery O’Connor Award for Short Fiction.

#CharityTuesday Adopt, Adopt, Adopt!

ADOPT A CAT TODAY!

adopt a cat

These kitties at Wood Green, the Animals Charity are looking for their forever home. We want to help them find one as they truly  deserve love and care like the rest of us πŸ’—

MILLY
Photo: Wood Green
How beautiful is Milly! She has amazing eyes, doesn't she? Milly likes to take life at her own pace and enjoys lazing in bed and basking in the sunshine. But like most of us, she also likes to be made a fuss of and longs for a favourite human to give her love, affection and all the creature comforts she deserves. Visit her profile to find out more about her!

JAVA
Photo: Wood Green
I think my mum has just fallen in love because just look at those beautiful blue eyes! (she's a sucker for gorgeous blue eyes, though of course, she loves my beautiful green ones too).

Well, I think I've fallen in love too because Java is so handsome, isn't he?

Java tells me he would prefer a rural home or an enclosed garden due to being deaf. An older family would be a great match for him as he is full of affection and really loves to play. He doesn't cope well with being picked up or confined, so needs to be allowed to do things of his own accord. If you think you could have the right home for this handsome guy, check out his profile to find out more about him.

#WhiskersWednesday Cats Matter Too!

Today I am going to get serious about a very important campaign.

CATS MATTER!

It all started when Mum read in the September issue of Your Cat magazine about the Cats Matter cause. We were both disgusted and angry to learn that over one in ten drivers leave a cat to die alone after they hit it. They are not required by law to report it. However, it is illegal to leave the scene after hitting a dog as it must be reported.

What is Cats Matter?

The ultimate goal of Cats Matter is to challenge UK law surrounding cats' welfare on UK roads. Continuously liaising with MPs and Government Departments, Cats Matter works tirelessly towards making it illegal for drivers to leave the scene without reporting if they have hit a cat.

Cats Matter

Not "Just a Cat"

The Cats Matter campaign also calls for it to be mandatory for all councils to scan every cat found and notify the owners, as well as spreading this message far and wide, in the hope of changing driver mindsets that it is ‘just a cat’.

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home #AlternativeCatwalk

What an amazing idea!

Today the beautiful kitties at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home are going to be live streamed by Yahoo in order to help them find their forever homes 😺
All you have to do to help raise funds for this amazing charity is to share far and wide and Yahoo will give £1 of every share to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home (Registered Charity Number: 206394) up to a maximum of £10,000 + VAT.

"On Yahoo Style, we’re all about the catwalk shows, but for 24 hours we’re partnering with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home to stream real kittens on their very own catwalk! We want to give Battersea’s rescue cats their moment in the spotlight so we’re helping our furry friends put their best paw forward, show off their model behaviour and help them find their forever homes. We’re beginning the stream on Thursday 17th August at 12:00pm BST and it’ll run all the way through to Friday 18th August at 11:59am BST. This is your chance to watch a day in the life of some of Battersea’s rescue kittens. You’ll be seeing socialising and feeding times, but don’t worry, we can send reminders on our social media pages so you can check back in. Don’t forget to share and help us reach our target! For every share of the stream on Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr (feel free to still post on Instagram), Yahoo Style will give £1 to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home (Registered Charity number 206394) up to the value of £10,000+VAT. The more we share, the more we raise awareness of rescue cats."

Caturday Art: UK General Election 2017

HAPPY CATURDAY!

So we in the UK are having a General Election on the 8th June.

Mum thinks a cat would do a better job at running this country and has created this graphic of me. She used LunaPic, and the frame is from some other photo editor (she can't remember which).

I think I would do great living at NO 10. And not as a mouser like the already resident cat, Larry, but as PM. But I am too much of a celebrity cat in my own right and a goddess too so I'm too busy for politics, but hey, why don't we all vote for Larry instead!

Would you rather have a cat running your country?

Whittington is so cuddly and loves to play. Due to a medical condition he needs a home with a fully enclosed garden and has to be the only cat in the house.

He is at the Heydon branch of Wood Green.

Happy International Cat Day!

Yeah, I know, it's cat day every day, but who cares? If humans decide it's International Cat Day, then let them I say!

It only means there's more cats trending on the Internet today than usual. And that can't be a bad thing can it?

Adopt Don't Shop #charitytuesday

As a rescue kitty I want to help other rescue cats get rehomed, so we are continuing our new weekly feature for Charity Tuesday, sharing adoptable cats from Wood Green, the Animal Charity (which is where I was rescued). We are so grateful to this amazing charity because without them we wouldn't be together! It's also one of the main charities we support.

FIDGET (photo: Wood Green)

Fidget and Sprockett came to the cetre through no fault of their own and are in need of a loving, forever home.  They are both very sweet and affectionate cats and enjoy both the indoor and outdoor lifestyle. If you think you can offer them a home full of TLC click HERE

MOLLY (photo: Wood Green)

Molly is a sweet girl but is finding life at the centre a struggle. She loves cuddles and a fuss, and needs a patient owner to take time and be calm with her. Molly has so much to offer and in a loving home environment, it shouldn’t take long before she becomes a happy and confident cat. Want to give Molly a home? Visit her profile at Wood Green

SNOOKS (photo: Wood Green)

Snooks wants to introduce himself so go ahead, Snooks!
"Hello my name is Snooks! As you came see I''m such a handsome chap. Unfortunately my previous owners didn''t like my special gifts I kept bringing them so I ended up here. I love being outside and exploring but I do also love home comforts as well. I would prefer to be the only one of my kind as I do get rather jealous. If you think you can offer me the home I deserve please pop into Cat Reception for more information.  You can find out more about Snooks on his profile page here.

Wordless Wednesday

Today, as it's Wordless, we thought we'd celebrate the beauty of silence. Mum and I (and I'm sure all my furry pals) think this world is far too loud, and it's humans and all their inventions that make it so. Sometimes it can be really overwhelming for sensitive types like us cats and my mum.

This morning she was ranting on about how she is fed up with being told she is far too quiet and shy when in actual fact the truth of the matter is she likes to think before engaging her mouth, which means she doesn't ramble on unnecessarily.

This is mostly because she worries about saying the wrong thing or upsetting someone. But she also suffers from social anxiety, and maybe it's her starsign too. She's a Cancerian, likes to test the waters a bit before learning whom to trust. But I think it's because she is so much like a cat, and feline friends, are we not like that too?

And like a cat, Mum does most of her communication by thoughts and telepathy. That's why she gets on so well with the animal kingdom, especially cats. In fact, if Mum ate meat and liked to hunt she'd make a great cat! But she's a vegan and doesn't believe in hurting living things.

How is your human more like a cat or dog?

Charity Tuesday: Adopt a Cat

As a rescue kitty I want to help other rescue cats get rehomed, so we are continuing our new weekly feature for Charity Tuesday, sharing adoptable cats from Wood Green, the Animal Charity (which is where I was rescued). We are so grateful to this amazing charity because without them, well, we wouldn't be here together! It's also one of the charities we support.

We are not affiliated with the charity in any way, we just want to help.

So here is lovely MISTY. She is 7 years old and is waiting for a new home at the Godmanchester branch. Misty is very sweet but a little shy at first. Once she gets to know you she will love a fuss. She enjoys exploring the great outdoors and is looking for a quiet forever home. If you would like to know more about her click HERE

MISTY (photo: Wood Green)

The next lovely lady is PIXEL. She was originally a stray before she came to the Heydon centre but is a a friendly cat who prefers the company of adults. This 8 year old girl would like a new home where she can be the only cat. She loves having the back of her neck rubbed. Click HERE to find out more about her.

PIXEL (photo: Wood Green)

This is beautiful DOLLY, a very sweet, affectionate cat who loves to sit beside you (not on your lap). She does enjoy being around people and lazing around the house.  Five-year-old Dolly is looking for a new forever home where she can be the only cat in the house. Find out more about Dolly HERE. She also has a video that you can view below.
