International Cat Day Sunday Selfie

This Tuesday 8th August is International Cat Day. For us though, and we guess for all cat lovers, it's Cat Day every day 😻

First here's my Sunday Selfie. Sorry it looks like I'm a bit grumpy. I was trying to nap but Mum insisted it was time to take a selfie.

Anyway, I forgive her because she spoils me every day, not just on International Cat Day and other "special" days.

Sunday Selfies is hosted by our furriends at The Cat On My Head

To celebrate International Cat Day we thought we'd share some of our favourite cat quotes that we've posted on our blog over the years.

Happy International Cat Day!

Happy International Cat Day!

It's always cat day for us but it's great to have a day like today to celebrate cats and for the world to be reminded of our awesomeness 😻

As it's also Throwback Thursday we are sharing this photo from late 2013 and if it looks familiar it's because we've posted it before and Mum also used it for the paperback cover of The Cat Years: How My Cat Soulmates Saved Me.

Right, book plug over now let's help some cats - the real purrfect way to honour International Cat Day, is it not?

Adopt a Cat

Sad to see that these two wonderful chaps are still at Wood Green, The Animals Charity (where I was adopted from).

We've featured them before on this blog and we can't understand why they have not yet met their forever human.

So we are sharing them again. They deserve it on this special day!

Help Save The Scottish Wildcat

Did you know that today is also Scottish Wildcat Day?

Scottish Wildcat
photo credit: Peter G Trimming 'Kendra' (3) via photopin

The elusive Scottish Wildcat is a descendent of the European Wildcat that colonized Britain around 9,000 years ago and due to deforestation and the loss of habitat in Britain, there are only a few of them now left in Scotland. It's heartbreaking to know that these beautiful wildcats are on the brink of extinction.

Save the Scottish wildcat by protecting Clashindarroch Forest

Please sign this petition urgently calling on the Scottish Government to immediately halt the logging and exploitation of Clashindarroch Forest to ensure the iconic Scottish wildcat survives.

The Scottish Wildcat is one of the rarest animals in the world; there are only 35 of them left on earth. A third of them live in the publicly owned Clashindarroch Forest in the Scottish Highlands, but they are in danger from logging by the Scottish Government’s Forestry Commission Scotland. If this doesn’t stop immediately, the wildcat will become extinct"

Animal Rescue Live with Supervet & International Cat Day!

ADOPT A SHELTER CAT!

Adopt don't Shop

It's all about animal rescue for us this week, more so than usual.

Our hero, Supervet Noel Fitzpatrick, is hosting a special week-long Channel 4 programme devoted to helping rescue pets find their forever homes.

We watched it last night and we were so impressed! We think this kind of programme should be on at least once a week in order to help more animals find their forever homes. Better a programme devoted to raising awareness for rescue pets than those silly reality shows about so-called "celebs" which most of the public seems obsessed about.

During this week, in which the show is broadcast live from the Newcastle Animal Shelter, the Supervet, Noel Fitzpatrick, joins Steve Jones and Kate Quilton as they aim to find permanent homes for the animals that currently live in the shelter. But the other great thing is that they will also help other shelters up and down the country rehome their rescue pets too. So, if you live in the UK and you're thinking about getting a new pet make sure you don't miss it!

😺

Today is also International Cat Day so let's help these beautiful rescue cats get adopted! As usual, we will share some cats from Wood Green, the Animal Charity (if you don't know by now, that's where Mum adopted me). We will forever be grateful to this amazing charity for helping us find each other.

Mum had seen a photo of me on the Wood Green website while she was searching for a rescue cat to adopt. I was a tiny kitten and had been abandoned in someone's garden and feeling sorry for myself. I really was scared and wondered if I'd ever find a new mum.

I have to say that they treat us very well at Wood Green (I was at the North London centre), but I longed for a forever home and family. Mum came in to look at me and some other kittens but it was me she chose. In fact, I chose her! As soon as I saw her I wanted her for my mummy. And the rest is history.

If you read my book, A Forever Home For Athena, you will find out all about the rescue (though some of it is fiction, only a tiny part). ALL THE PROCEEDS FROM THIS BOOK WILL BE DONATED TO 3 OF OUR FAVOURITE ANIMAL CHARITIES. It states in the book that only a portion will be donated, but now Mum wants to donate all her royalties.

Before we continue showing you some Wood Green kitties, please take a look at this urgent appeal for a cat in our area that desperately needs a forever home because his owners can't take him with them when they move home soon. If you live in North London around the Edmonton or Enfield area and you are interested in adopting an adult cat (he is 4 years old) then please read our post and contact the lady who asked us to help find a home for this handsome boy. The cat isn't hers by the way. She is an animal lover who works at one of our local estate agents and is keen to help this kitty (just like we are!)

So go ahead and check it out. But first, take a look at these 3 fabulous felines!

Macy

Macy (Photo: Wood Green)
Macy is a sweet lady who has come into the Heydon centre as her elderly owner was unable to care for her any longer. Macy likes to sit next to you whilst watching TV and will give you extra attention if she senses you are unwell. She likes to potter about in the garden. She also likes to drink from the tap! If you think you can offer her the home she deserves please check out her profile for more information.

Cookie

Cookie (Photo: Wood Green)
Sweet Cookie goes crackers for fuss and loves to play. When she really likes you she may mistake you for a rusk and give you a nibble but it's usually so gently that it wouldn't dent a wafer. For Cookie, a loving home where she has an outside space to potter and be the centre of attention would really take the biscuit. If you are interested in her please check out her profile for more info.

Lulah
Lulah (Photo: Wood Green)

This beautiful cat is Lulah. She is an outgoing, chatty cat who likes to greet you and enjoys the attention. She loves to follow you around the house too! Lulah is ideally looking for a quiet, calm home where she can snooze the day away either on your lap or somewhere else warm and cozy. She really would love a forever home so check out her profile to find out more about her!

Disclosure: I received no compensation for this post. As a rescue kitty myself I want to help other rescues find their forever home, so each week on Charity Tuesday I share adoptable cats from Wood Green, the Animals Charity (which is where I was rescued). It's International Cat Day!

Happy International Cat Day!

Yeah, I know, it's cat day every day, but who cares? If humans decide it's International Cat Day, then let them I say!

It only means there's more cats trending on the Internet today than usual. And that can't be a bad thing can it?

Sunday Selfie with Black n White Sunday

So yesterday it was International Cat Day and we forgot all about it! But maybe that's because every day is cat day in our house so it doesn't really make a difference to us. But then again, isn't it great that there is a special day to celebrate the greatness of felines? We hope all our kitty friends had a fun day!

Today I told Mum I'd like to enter Sugar the Golden Retriever and Dachshund Nola's Black and White Sunday Blog Hop as well as Sunday Selfies, which is hosted by The Cat On My Head, so here we have a selfie in black and white...

Have a great Sunday!
