HOW YOU CAN HELP WAR-TORN UKRAINE'S TRAUMATIZED ANIMALS

Viva!, the UK’s leading vegan campaigning charity, is helping to rescue and care for the animals who are caught up in the horrors of the Ukraine-Russia war. Viva! UK will accept donations and quickly transfer it to their sister organisation Viva! Poland.

“The scale of the problem for both people and their animals is vast,” says Juliet Gellatley, founder and director of Viva!. “We needed to organise rapidly to meet the enormous demand – and we have. At the heart of our humanitarian effort is our 52-acre sanctuary at Korabiewicach near Warsaw, where we have taken in 100 cats and dogs from Ukrainian shelters who were at risk of starving or being bombed – as well as some from refugees who could not care for them any longer, but with 450 existing animals in the shelter it is rapidly filling up. An urgent email appeal to Viva! UK supporters produced £30,000, which was immediately transferred to Poland, where it’s needed. We anticipate doubling or trebling this figure shortly with our postal appeal.

“To ensure we can accept more animals into our Polish sanctuary, we have launched a rehoming scheme in the UK, where we have appealed to British people to home some of our existing Polish dogs, whose characters we know and who don’t require quarantine. They have responded magnificently, creating more space for us to receive new refugee dogs.”

Eurogroup For Animals also has a list of animal welfare and rescue organisations helping Ukrainian animals. Here are a few. Please visit their site for others.

Always Adopt If You Can #RememberMeThursday

Remember Me Thursday Graphic

Please always adopt pets if you can. There are so many animals in shelters everywhere waiting and waiting for forever homes. Some wait for ages, some never find a home and some sadly are put to sleep (which is so disgusting by the way ๐Ÿคฌ)

Every animal deserves love and care ๐Ÿ’Ÿ

And animals are capable of giving so much ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’– and more back!

For example, Mum needed me and I needed her, and we rescued each other.

I came along a few months after Mum lost her dad. On September 30th it is actually the 10-year anniversary since he passed.

Mum has always suffered from depression and anxiety and so took his death really bad. She had wanted a cat for ages up to that point, but after the heartbreak of losing her beloved tuxedo girl Suzy in 1998, she couldn't bring herself to let another furry soul into her heart. For years, she focused instead on her studies and writing.

Anyway, fast forward to  July 21st, 2011, the best day ever for Mum and me - she went to Wood Green, The Animals Charity to adopt me!

She had seen me two days before on the charity's website.

I was at the shelter because I had been abandoned as a kitten. I was found in someone's garden and had been taken to Wood Green. They took care of me and soon I was up for adoption. As soon as Mum walked to my pen I started climbing the wire mesh door. She had come for me, I knew it. I had chosen her after all!

And the rest is history.

Here's baby me on the day I got adopted sitting on Mum's lap at home. I was just over 10 weeks old.

#CaturdayArt in Honour of Remember Me Thursday 2018

Before we show you our Caturday Art today we would like to take a moment to honour Remember Me Thursday® - which this year will fall on September  27th.

From Remember Me Thursday website:

"Remember Me Thursday® is a global awareness campaign uniting individuals and pet adoption organizations around the world as an unstoppable, integrated voice for orphan pets to live in forever homes, not die waiting for them.

On September 27, 2018, the entire world will share the importance of pet adoption, and shine a light on all orphan pets waiting in shelters and rescues. In 2017, people using #RememberMeThursday reached nearly 330 million people on social media.

Can we get even more people sharing the importance of pet adoption in 2018? It’s up to you to spread the word."

Happy Rescue Cat

This picture is from last year's Remember Me Thursday post and I am a happy rescue cat! However, we know other cats and animals aren't so lucky. It is those we want to honour today and light a candle of awareness for them. Helping animals is my mum's passion and as a rescue cat, I want to advocate for homeless pets a well.

Caturday Art

For Caturday Art today Mum used the Blot effect in Painnt, which was a free effect on the day we used it so it might not be free today but there are lots of other free ones to choose from in this great app.

Mum says the yellow glow around me here looks like an aura. So we got talking about auras and what a yellow aura would mean. Mum says she read somewhere that a yellow aura means that I am intelligent, wise, playful, happy and creative and that I radiate spiritual energy.

Which suits me fine, don't you think?!

Kitty Karma Cat Tales #ThursdayThoughts

As animal rescue advocates, we just had to share this wonderful crowdfunding campaign from Kitty Karma Books which aims to cover publishing and production costs for Kitty Karma: Big Stories of Small Cats Who Change Our Lives. Proceeds from book sales will go directly to benefit three needy cat shelters.

Cat tales fund shelters for abandoned, unwanted felines in need

The campaign began October 1 so it's not too late to donate. Your donation will help raise funds to cover publishing and production costs of Kitty Karma: Big Stories of Small Cats Who Change Our Lives.  The pre-campaign is now live and affords opportunities to sign up and receive 10% discount on campaign contributions.

The book’s collection of stories, donated for free by nearly two dozen authors, will feature tales of adventure cats and feral cats; cats who are sailing on high seas off the coasts of New Zealand and Mexico; and a cat sanctuary located in a war zone. Readers will learn about a popular cat cafรฉ in Ontario, Canada as well the first cat cafรฉ in India.

The book will be published and available for sale in November. All net proceeds from book sales will be donated to support three incredible cat shelter charities – Il Gattaro D’aleppo in Syria, Abay Kitties of Hawaii, and Whangatamata CAT in New Zealand.

What is the book about?

Kitty Karma: Big Stories of Small Cats Who Change Our Lives is a heart-warming and heart-rending collection of stories that unveils a world of cats rarely seen and rarely known, and the book’s remarkable editorial contributors are united by one simple thing: a fierce and passionate love for cats.  Contributors include:
· Siglinda Scarpa: An Italian artist and animal rights activist founder and primary benefactor for cat sanctuary The Goathouse Refuge in Pittsboro, North Carolina.
· Alessandra Abidin: A Lebanese-born violinist with degrees in political science and international relations, who works in Switzerland and other countries in the field of immigration and war crimes.
· Lori Ostlund and Anne Raeff. The only writing couple to have individually won the Flannery O’Connor Award for Short Fiction.

#CharityTuesday Adopt, Adopt, Adopt!

ADOPT A CAT TODAY!

adopt a cat

These kitties at Wood Green, the Animals Charity are looking for their forever home. We want to help them find one as they truly  deserve love and care like the rest of us ๐Ÿ’—

MILLY
Photo: Wood Green
How beautiful is Milly! She has amazing eyes, doesn't she? Milly likes to take life at her own pace and enjoys lazing in bed and basking in the sunshine. But like most of us, she also likes to be made a fuss of and longs for a favourite human to give her love, affection and all the creature comforts she deserves. Visit her profile to find out more about her!

JAVA
Photo: Wood Green
I think my mum has just fallen in love because just look at those beautiful blue eyes! (she's a sucker for gorgeous blue eyes, though of course, she loves my beautiful green ones too).

Well, I think I've fallen in love too because Java is so handsome, isn't he?

Java tells me he would prefer a rural home or an enclosed garden due to being deaf. An older family would be a great match for him as he is full of affection and really loves to play. He doesn't cope well with being picked up or confined, so needs to be allowed to do things of his own accord. If you think you could have the right home for this handsome guy, check out his profile to find out more about him.

ROCKY has the eye of the tiger and enjoys the thrill of the fight and because of this, he is looking for a rural home with no other cats in the area. This guy loves to hunt and stalks his prey in the night. Want Rocky to live with you? Find out more HERE

Adopt a Cat: George and Milo #CharityTuesday

As a rescue kitty myself I want to help other rescue pets find their forever home, so each week on Charity Tuesday I will be sharing adoptable cats from Wood Green, the Animals Charity (which is where I was rescued). We are so grateful to this amazing charity because without them we would never have found each other! It's also one of the main charities we support.

MILO arrived at Wood Green through no fault of his own and was quite nervous. Since then he says he had grown in confidence and is now quite an affectionate cat! He would prefer to be an only cat so no other cats get to steal the fuss and attention he deserves. If you would like to know more about handsome Milo then click here  - but don't forget to watch his video below first!

Another handsome dude is GEORGE. He is quite a docile chap who says he prefers people to cats and is currently in his own ''cat penthouse'' at the Heydon centre! He just isn't happy around other cats, but he has a beautiful nature and loves to spend time with people he knows. Watch his video below, and if you are interested in him, please click here to find out more.
