The Dog House is Amazing TV. Now Let's Have The Cat House! #charitytuesday

Mum has been busy catching up with her latest favourite TV show.

It's called The Dog House (yeah, really) and I've caught her getting all emotional watching as the dogs try to find a forever home.

Described as a First Dates show for dogs,  the show's aim is to match prospective owners with a dog in need of a loving home. Mum says that the programme is "magical" and that it's quite different from most animal rescue shows seen here on British TV.

The TV series is set inside Wood Green, The Animals Charity, and shows the huge commitment and care that staff put into matching their homeless dogs with the right dog owners - humans who share personal reasons for wanting to adopt a dog. The series is deep, very moving and pulls at the heartstrings - hence Mum getting over-emotional. She weeps for the homeless dogs (some who have had the most awful experiences) and is also touched by the personal stories of the people who long to adopt.

Mum says it reminds her of how we rescued each other, all thanks to this pawmazing charity! She would like to add though that we did not go through the same process as these doggies and prospective owners did.

Mum saw me online and went to the London centre to enquire about me and also see if we were right for each other. Well, luckily we were. I was in the first pen stretching my paw out to touch her through the mesh, going crazy because I really wanted her to take me home. I knew she was my future mum. It just happened. We fell in love with one another and the rest is history!

Oh, the memories!

International Pet Rescue

Even though we are British and live in England it doesn't mean we don't want to help rescue animals around the world! We try to do our bit via social media, hoping to raise awareness for animals in need, thus giving them more of a chance to find the forever home they so deserve.

This blog may not have many followers and my social media accounts could do with at least 1000 more followers - no, make it 30 thousand -  but I'm sure every little mention, share, etc, helps.

One of the things that deeply upset Mum is knowing that in some countries cats are treated as vermin. (Yes, google if you don't believe). Being of Greek heritage (her parents are Greek Cypriot) the cats of Greece and Cyprus hold a special place in her heart. But you know Mum, she loves all animals!

However, it's nice to know there are lots of amazing, caring, people who do help cats. And we are grateful to them.

Here is Barcode at Cyprus Pride House - in Cyprus.

Overlooked cats in Britain

Sadly, there are so many overlooked cats urgently needing forever homes everywhere. Here is a list of UK rescue shelters and charities from the cat rescue resource CatChat.org, with details of harder to home senior cats, black cats, special needs cats, FIV+ cats and feral/farm cats.

Queen Whisper of Heydon

Queen Whisper (Photo: Wood Green)

What a name! Beautiful Queen Whisper is the longest resident at the shelter in Heydon and has now had the title of Queen Whisper of Heydon bestowed upon her. She is an affectionate cat who likes to be friends once she knows and trusts you. This lovely lady would like a quiet home where she can be the only cat and enjoy the outdoors. A mature lady of 12 years, do not be fooled by her age, as she is still a very active cat who loves to play and is also an effective hunter!  If you think you can offer Queen Whisper her new forever home, please check out her profile.

Bobbit and Trixie are seeking a home together
Bobbit and Trixie (photo: Wood Green)
Aren't Bobbit and Trixie cute? These sweeties would like to be rehomed together. They are both a little bit wary at the moment but are lovely when they get to know you. Trixie is quite an independent girl and likes to spend more time outside enjoying a bit of hunting. Bobbit is more of a homebody but will still head out to the garden for some fresh air. They also both enjoy a fuss and an occasional belly rub too!

If you are interested in giving these two gorgeous girls a loving forever home check out their profile for more info.

My Valentine is My Pet and Here is Why #sundayselfie

Valentine Selfie

Mum and I are close. Very close.

But you all know that.

So here is Mum to tell you that it doesn't matter if you are single and don't have a Valentine this year.

Why?

Well, love isn't just romantic love, is it?

You can love your parents, grandparents, children, friends and of course, your darling PETS!

In fact, the love between pets and humans can be very strong indeed. Some might say it's the strongest.

HERE IS MUM TO TELL YOU WHY.

"My darling Athena is my Valentine because I feel complete when I'm with her. And I can't say that I've ever truly felt like that with anyone else (human).

Ever since the day we rescued each other in July 2011 we have taken care of each other.

When I'm down, she knows it and tries to make it all better. She sticks by me, purrs and makes biscuits on me. How soothing for the soul is that! I don't think anything else can compare.

We kiss and cuddle all the time throughout the day, and neither one of us feels smothered. If Athena doesn't like it I can sense it and back off for a while. But most of the time she loves her mummy's kisses and cuddles πŸ’•

Cats are great for someone like me. A human with depression and anxiety. Athena really helps to reduce the stress I feel most days. When my mind is gripped by yet another beastly negative thought - usually that I am a loser and don't have a future - I've learned to bring my thoughts back to the present and focus on the moment. Just like a cat.

Yes, cats are experts in 'mindfulness' aren't they?

Athena has the loudest purr and I love to put my ear close to her so I can feel that magical vibration and hear the sweet music of the soul that seems to heal every bone in my body and every panicky thought in my unquiet mind.

She makes me feel loved and needed. For example, I know that I can't stay in bed in the morning because my little one needs feeding. And as every cat parent knows, you don't need an alarm when you have a cat!

I trust her. I don't need her to tell me anything. Her thoughts and actions speak loudly to me. It's like we exist in our own little world, or on the same spiritual plane, so far removed from the insanity of human life, with its materialistic shallowness, greed and desire to destroy everything on this planet. All this stuff simply overwhelms me and I regularly need an escape.

And what better way than to escape into the world of cat.

Where I find nothing but pure true love.

And I wouldn't have it any other way because you can never be lonely if you have a pet.

So go on, adopt your furry soulmate today and experience the true meaning of love!"

Adopt Don't Shop #CharityTuesday

As you know if you follow my blog regularly, I am a rescue kitty and as a rescue kitty I want to help other rescue pets find their forever home, so each week on Charity Tuesday I will be sharing adoptable cats from Wood Green, the Animals Charity (which is where I was rescued). We are so grateful to this amazing charity because without them we would never have found each other! It's also one of the main charities we support.

Francesca is an independent, inquisitive young lady. Once she's settled and knows you, she will come and greet you for a little fuss. The poor girl has had a very unsettling life up to now and so would need a rural home with just a few cats around. Francesca gets startled very easily by loud or sudden noises and needs owners who will be happy to let her have the freedom to choose when she would like to interact with them.  However, in the right home, Francesca will grow in confidence and be a happy, loving cat, but she needs owners who can give her the time and patience for her to adjust to her new life at her own pace. If you think you can offer Francesca the forever home she deserves click here to find out more. Don't forget to watch her video!

Kiki is a real cutie with lovely black facial markings that match her pure black tail. Although she can be timid, she likes to be stroked and let's you know she would like some attention by rubbing up against you. She enjoys having her own “me” times too and when she's in the mood, she can be very playful. A quieter home environment would help her confidence shine through. If you think you could offer Kiki the forever home she deserves click here to find out more.Watch her in action in this video first!

We have featured Mitten before and we just don't understand why she hasn't been rehomed yet.

Though she enjoys being the Heydon centre's mascot, she believes it is time she found her own quiet forever home in which to settle.

This sweet lovable girl loves attention at her own whim, and at Heydon she likes to greet visitors and also enjoys playtime with feathers as well as liking the odd treat of fresh meat.

Adopt a Cat #CharityTuesday

HAPPY CHARITY TUESDAY!

As a rescue kitty I want to help other rescue cats find their forever home, so we are continuing our new weekly feature for Charity Tuesday, sharing adoptable cats from Wood Green, the Animal Charity (which is where I was rescued). We are so grateful to this amazing charity because without them we would never have found each other! It's also one of the main charities we support.

Jack is looking for his forever retirement home. Although he can be a little shy at first, once settled, he is an affectionate boy and a real lap-cat. Contact the Heydon centre if you are interested in adopting him.

Monty came in as a stray. He is a friendly boy and enjoys fuss and attention from his humans. He also loves a lap to sit on. Interested in adopting him? Find out more here

Miu is a bit on the large side and loves her food so she will need to lose a few pounds. She would prefer a nice quiet home and loves to snooze away the day on your lap. She is at the Heydon centre.

Adopt a Cat: #CharityTuesday

As a rescue kitty I want to help other rescue cats find their forever home, so we are continuing our new weekly feature for Charity Tuesday, sharing adoptable cats from Wood Green, the Animal Charity (which is where I was rescued). We are so grateful to this amazing charity because without them we would never have found each other! It's also one of the main charities we support.

TAZ (photo:Wood Green)

TAZ arrived at the Heydon Centre after his previous owner unfortunately passed away. He says he is now looking for a home where "all his whims can be dealt with accordingly". This includes being brushed regularly and given lots of fuss whenever possible. After what he's been through, this boy deserves to get all the loving and pampering he asks for and more! Visit his page at Wood Green today!

MONTY (photo: Wood Green)

MONTY is such a stunning male cat as you can see!  He arrived at the centre as a stray but he is a friendly boy, who enjoys a fuss and attention. He also loves a lap to sit on. If you want ot know more about him visit his profile.

HONEY (photo: Wood Green)

HONEY is so sweet and pretty but is understandably a little unsettled at the centre. She is friendly and affectionate and when settled in her forever home, will love to sit on your lap. If you would like to know more about her visit her profile

UNWANTED PET WEEK

No one wants to feel unwanted, but unfortunately for some pets this is the reality. They have become 'unwanted' due to the fact that some people don't really care. To them, these poor animals are either:

  • Too old
  • Too expensive
  • Too much effort
  • Not suitable anymore because human child comes along

and no doubt many other reasons are given when a pet is abandoned just because someone decides they can't take care of it anymore.

But thanks to animal charities like Wood Green these animals are given care and another chance in life. A chance to find a new forever home. But charities like these cannot do it alone of course. To give these abandoned pets the help they need, to feed and shelter them, give them veterinary care and love until they find the loving home they deserve, help and support from the public is a must.

So this week, from 9 to 16 May 2016, Wood Green The Animals Charity (who take in more than 90 homeless and abandoned animals each week) are hoping to raise awareness and funds to help more animals. Yes, 'unwanted' is not a nice word, but as I said, the reality is that a lot of animals that find themselves at rescue shelters are 'unwanted' by someone. But that doesn't stop them becoming 'wanted' by some kind hearted person. Animal lovers like my human mum, who found me at Wood Green and adopted me. For I was 'unwanted' once. A tiny kitten abandoned in a garden in North London. But I was lucky. Extremely lucky to be taken care of by Wood Green until I found my forever home.

We are so grateful to this amazing charity because without them, well, we wouldn't be here together! It's also one of the charities we support.

Coco is a confident, friendly cat that came in with her son. She can be extremely affectionate and likes her home comforts. She may prefer a quieter household with older children. Coco is at the London centre (where I stayed before Mum rescued me.) I'm sure she is being well cared for but she really needs a home of her own. Want to find out more about her? Click HERE

COCO (photo:Wood Green)

TC is a Top Cat! Sweet, easy going and friendly, all he wants is some home comforts. He came to Wood Green after being abandoned by his previous owner. He is quite a playful and lively chap. He also has no teeth but still eats as normal and loves his dinner. This handsome golden oldie is also at the London centre. Click HERE to find out more about him

TC  (photo:Wood Green)

This handsome boy is Diamond. He is fairly new to the centre and is finding it a bit overwhelming at the moment. He would love a quiet home with an understanding owner who will be able to bring him out of his shell and get him back to the playful, snuggly cat he was. He is at the Godmanchester centre. Find out more about him HERE

First up it's Bowie, with her uniquely coloured eyes. Not much is known about her but she hasn't had the best life as she was brought in as a stray. She is a little nervous to start with but once she gets to know you she is very sweet, fussy and affectionate. If you think you can offer Bowie the forever home she deserves then please click HERE for more information.

BOWIE (photo: Wood Green)

Beautiful Tinkerbelle was brought into the Heydon centre because sadly her owner passed away. She is friendly cat who loves to purr loudly once she gets to know you. She enjoys human company and will follow you around the house watching you do your daily chores and will jump onto your lap. Click HERE for more information.

TINKERBELLE (photo: Wood Green)

Jibbs is quite a worried little girl so she is currently on foster and is to be rehomed from her foster home. A nice understanding human would be best for her to help her settle and relax in her new home. If you think you might be able to offer this lovely lady her "forever" home find out more by clicking HERE
