12th Gotcha Day Sunday Selfie

It's my 12th Gotcha Day on 21st July. I got adopted by Mum Marie from Wood Green in the summer of 2011 when I was just 10 weeks old. I had been abandoned in someone's garden and this amazing charity rescued me. They took care of me until I was ready to find a forever home. And the rest is history!

You can read about it in my book.

Happy 10th Gotcha Day To Me!

 It's my 10th Gotcha Day today 😻

I got adopted from Wood Green, The Animals Charity on 21st July 2011. It only seems like yesterday!

Here I am with Mum a couple of days after I got adopted. We look so much younger, especially me. I was just over 10 weeks old here.

What a cute kitten I was!

Check out this video Mum filmed on her then phone - a Blackberry. Remember them? I felt at home straight away and jumped onto Mum's lap for love and cuddles.

You can read my book A Forever Home For Athena if you haven't already to find out about my rescue (though some of it is fictionalized as Mum doesn't really know what happened to me before she adopted me other than I was found abandoned in a garden and got taken to the shelter).

Storytime with Athena and Marie #WhiskersWednesday

We hope you are all staying safe and healthy.

I've been giving Mum ideas about fun stuff to do during the lockdown. The UK is currently in week 3.

First, here I am with my wise eyes speaking to Mum. Good job she understands cat. Well, at least she can pick up on my thoughts.

Remember my rescue story that we published in 2013?

Athena helped her Mum Marie write her rescue story

Well, we have decided to start promoting it again because it had disappointing sales. It has not made much money for the animal charities we support. At first, we were donating partial earnings but then we started donating 100 % of royalties, which we still continue to do.

Mum wishes she had the money to support lots of charities but she hasn't and times are tough for everyone right now.

Anyway, I told her to read my book to share with everybody during quarantine and lockdown. We posted Chapter 1 on YouTube today. Please subscribe and share. Mum says she will try to post a reading 2 or 3 times a week. We know many of you have already read my story and we are very grateful for your support.

We thought recording the video with Mum reading my story to me would be a treat for my fans 😻😽

Here's the video. Mum apologizes for the blurriness. She blames both her camera and her poor eyesight. She was also in a rush to film.

Happy Friday!

This flashback is from March 2018. We were still living in North London then, waiting for the day we could finally move to our new home in beautiful Essex.

Winter Sunday Selfies

Happy Sunday!

It's cold and I'm snuggling up on the sofa cushion to keep warm. I hope you are keeping snuggly and warm too if it's cold where you are.

If I look 😿 it's because I do not like the cold. Mum's weird because she likes it.
Don't worry though, she keeps the house warm with the central heating. She says it's not as cold as it is in some parts of the world. We haven't had any snow yet.

To brighten the day up a bit Mum wanted to share an artsy version of the above pic.

Bubbles (video below) is at Wood Green The Animals Charity and is looking for a forever home.

"Bubbles is a beautiful lady who has come to Wood Green after her owner passed away. She is a sweet girl who enjoys fuss on her terms. She has her mad moments where she runs around the house and likes to slide a rug across the floor! Once she knows you she loves to curl up on your lap. She also learns very quickly that the fridge is a very good place to spend some time if you want to be in with a chance of a tasty treat and is starting to do tricks for some turkey!"

Bengal Cat Needs Forever Home #adoptacat

Athena says Adopt Don't Shop!

💚

This beautiful bengal boy is Cassius. Isn't he gorgeous?

Adopt Don't Shop Charity Tuesday Forever Home Wanted for Cat
PHOTO: Wood Green

Cassius is being cared for by my favourite animal shelter Wood Green, The Animals Charity. If you don't know my rescue story it's the charity that rescued me from someone's garden in North London where I was found abandoned as a kitten.

Mum saw my photo on the charity's website and went to the London branch to adopt me.

And the rest is history!

Cassius is " looking for a new home, where he can enjoy being the only cat in the area- he just wants all of the attention for himself! Cassius is very sweet and friendly and enjoys jumping up onto your lap for a cuddle. When he's not showering you with love, Cassius loves to explore outside. He would definitely prefer to live in a more rural area with a low cat population. If you could offer Cassius his forever home, please click here to find out more."

Sadly some shelter animals never make it. It's heartbreaking to know that this goes on but we hope we can save a life by sharing...

The Reality of Many Shelter Animals

"URGENT" NYC Shelter Animals

“Urgent” was created to help advocate for NYC’s Death Row Dogs and Cats. What started as a desperate attempt to save some dogs turned into an enormous community of caring people, just as outraged as we are. Together, we are fighting to reform the NYC shelter system and save the thousands of adoptable animals being needlessly destroyed each year. The battle is long and the list of casualties continues to climb but we will not give up… not until there are none.

You may be able to save a life!

Tinky for Tabby Tuesday and Sweet Donna #adoptdontshop

As a rescued kitty I want to help other cats get adopted!

TINKY

TINKY (Photo: Wood Green)

From Wood Green, The Animal Charity:

This lovely girl is Tinky who has come into us with her friend  Betty so they are looking for a home together. Tinky is a very affectionate cat who likes a fuss and a groom. She spends lots of time anywhere warm in the house but on a sunny day likes to sunbath in the sun."

DONNA

DONNA (Photo: Nine Lives Greece)

Sweet Donna is a Nine Lives Greece cat who was found abandoned, starving and terrified in a park. She must have had a home before because she had already been neutered.

"Approximately 9 months old, Donna has one bad eye which she most likely was born with. However, it doesn’t need any medical treatment and she can see well with her other eye. She’s a cuddly and playful cat who would be better as the only cat in her new home so she can be queen of the house."

HARRY

PHOTO: The Skiathos Cats

HARRY from the Skiathos Cats also wants a home.

From The Skiathos Cats website:
"The Skiathos Cat Welfare Association was formed by Sharon Hewing in 2007, although we are a registered charity we rely totally on donations via our website, Facebook, tourists, and various small scale fundraising events.

The purpose of our Association shall be to:-

  • Foster a general awareness throughout the local community on the plight of stray cats
  • Engage the local, national and international community on issues having to do with Cat welfare
  • Make partnerships with various organizations to further expand opportunities to improve the wellbeing of the local stray cat population
  • Raise funds and to invite and receive donations to facilitate the provision of food, medication and veterinary services including neutering for the stray cat population"

1-year-old Harry was found on the streets as a 6-week old kitten with his eye hanging out (poor boy 😿). The vet had to remove it but Harry has grown into a healthy and very beautiful cat who would love a home with outdoor space. Find out more about him here.
