Caturday Art

HAPPY CATURDAY!

We are super excited about this free photo editing progam we've just found. It's called FotoSketcher and just look at how great it is at turning your photos into art.

Mum used the oil painting effect and it looks quite amazing.

World Spay Day 24th February 2015

Athena here. Mum wanted me to write this post so here I am. Did you know that on the last Tuesday of February (doesn't time fly?) it is World Spay Day?

What is World Spay Day?

World Spay Day is a day that hopes to highlight the importance of neutering and spaying your furry babies. Now, I'm not exactly sure what I think about that. All I know is that it was done to me when I was about five months old. It wasn't very nice. Mum took me back to the place where we met and left me there and the lady vet there did it to me.

I didn't feel a thing of course, because she gave me something that made me sleepy. When I woke up, even though I was groggy, I remembered my mum and I was worried I would never see her again. Perhaps she had taken me back because she didn't want me any more?

But she did come back. A few hours later, she tells me. And she took me home and then I realised I was made ugly. Why? Because bits of my fur were missing, that's what! A big patch of it. And Mum wouldn't let me lick my horrible wound, and she kept a big watch over me so I wouldn't touch it. She made everything feel better with lots of extra cuddles and treats, though. Her healing energy made me feel better too and I sat on her lap a lot. But soon I was running around like the crazy little kitty I was again. The fur grew back quickly and I was back to my beautiful goddess self.

Mum says she wishes she had some good quality photos of me with my fur shaved off, but she hasn't, and I'm pleased! I don't want it shown here. That would be embarrassing.

But what am I doing? I'm scaring you kitties! And it wasn't my intention because Mum says this is a VERY IMPORTANT post.

You see, if kitties don't get spayed, there will soon be lots and lots of other kitties around, and then what will your humans do? And what about all the strays and homeless pets? Some cats don't have a great life like us fortunate pampered ones, you know. They are orphaned, homeless, starving, they get sick, and there are just too many. These poor kitties, if they don't die of natural causes, usually end up being killed by humans anyway because silly humans don't know what to do with them. I know. Very nasty! Mum doesn't want to think about that, and I don't either. Why humans want to control the world is another matter, and that would make a rather long post. I think that one is for mum to write, perhaps on her other blog.

Spaying your cat shouldn't be too expensive. What is great about World Spay Day is that many animal charities around the world have got together not only to promote the importance of spaying and neutering, but so many of them also provide affordable low-cost spaying for people on a low wage or unemployed. To find out where this service is available n your area CLICK HERE
If you are in the UK you can find out about discount neutering schemes in your area HERE
Some even provide a free neutering service on World Spay Day, so do check it out.

In the UK World Spay Day is supported by the following animal charities:

  • The Blue Cross
  • Battersea Dogs & Cats Home
  • Cats Protection
  • Celia Hammond Animal Trust
  • International Cat Care
  • Mayhew Animal Home
  • PDSA
  • RSPCA
  • Wood Green Animal Charity

What about you kitty friends? Have you been spayed? Do you have any memories of it? How do you feel about it? Do you think your humans were right to do it to you?

Tarot Reading For Wally of the Island Cats

If you may remember a couple of weeks ago we had the first Pet Tarot Reading Giveaway. Well, today we are going to post the reading! This month's winner, The Island Cats, has very kindly given permission for us to post the reading for you all to enjoy.

The reading was for lovely Wally.

So sit back and enjoy and don't forget to join us for the next monthly Pet Tarot giveaway.

Tarot Reading for The Island Cats (11th February 2015)

Card 1 Represents the Past

The first card drawn is the KNAVE OF SWORDS. This suggest that Wally was a kitten with very wise thoughts. He seeks truth and as all clever kitties was and still is very curious. Strongwilled, he learned to communicate his thoughts with you pretty quickly. This mentally restless little bundle of energy is here to teach you patience. I see that many times he sends you clues about what he wants and needs.Thoughts thrown about and you not aware of them. Sometimes you pick up sometimes you do not. The birds in the cloudy sky in the card relate to higher spirit or spiritual thoughts. A higher consiousness. You feel he was a gift to you. Helped you in some way. Mountains represent timelessness. He is definitely a soul kitty. Eternally bound. Perhaps a past life connection. The clouds represent some fearful thoughts that he may have had as a young kitten.

Card 2 Represents the Present

THE HANGED MAN suggests that in the present moment there is a sense of being a little stuck. Perhaps Wally can't go outside as often as he wants. I am getting that he is feeling frustrated in some way. "Look at things from my POV, Mom," I think he is saying. He would like you to play with him more. He finds the home slightly chaotic at times. May need more balance. Sometimes things seem indecisive. If not then he is wanting you to take a break. Give him more attention (I know, what cat doesn't want attention?) He also feels a bit controlled in some way. Maybe by other cats? I think he would like more freedom to do what he wants. He is certainly a cat that knows what he wants.

Card 3 Represents the Near Future

THE 9 OF WANDS in this position also relates to the present. This card is a battle or conflict card. Wally is a wise cat. Experienced many lifetimes and many with you and is dedicated to you. But he remembers old wounds, not any you have inflicted, though! Although maybe his pride has been hurt too somewhere. But he would rather forget and knows that life is to be enjoyed in the now. Playtime and treats, as well as long lovely naps is the way to go! He shows great courage and will stand his ground. Very territorial. Either he fights for the food bowl or with other cats in the neighbourhood. Other cats may seem a threat. He seems protective of you. To me, this card also suggest that he would like more of the same food and he isn't getting it!

To sum up, Wally's reading shows me he is an old soul, quite the philosopher cat, who always knows what he wants and is trying to get your attention in more ways than one. He is proud and mentally strong. A handsome cat and he knows it!

Thank you for letting me read for Wally.

Lots of love,

Marie x

Melt Your Heart Monday

Mum  wanted to post this video because she is addicted to purrs.I don't know why she needs to listen to other cats' purrs because I thought I was her purring machine!

Anyway, this really long video is the purrfect way to unwind after a long stressful human day. I really do feel sorry for you humans, with all that running around trying to live. I am so glad I'm a cat!

10 Ways a Cat and Her Human Mum Show Their Love For One Another

We know everyone is feeling the love this Valentine Week, but it's important to note (as we know many of you animal lovers do), that Valentine's Day is not only about romantic love. Why should it be? As a wise kitty goddess I am here to tell you that love, and certainly 'purrfect' love can be found with your adorable and adoring pets. So let us celebrate this beautiful love!
A photo posted by Athena (@athenawisekitty) on

As you can see, Mum and I are totally in love with each other. Here are some of the ways we show our love for one another.

1 Cuddles
We love to cuddle. Mum is always cuddling me. And because I love her I let her hug me tight. If I'm not in the mood I soon let her know though! Cuddles and Snuggles under the duvet on a cold day (and night) are just the best.

2 Purrs I purr all the time to show Mum how much she means to me and how happy she makes me. I also purr to calm her when she's stressed. This calms me too.
3 Eye gaze/slow blink We gaze at each other. A lot. And then I slow blink at her. Mum has learned to do this too back to me.

4 We listen to each other I let Mum talk to me when she needs to. Sometimes she needs to complain and she has a lot on her mind. She feels misunderstood a lot of the time by humans so she finds me far more understanding.

5 Take care of each other We always look out for each other and there is never a moment when we are not thinking of each other.

6 Play together We have lots of fun playing games, as you can see from this video below, and this one
A video posted by Athena (@athenawisekitty) on
7 Sleep together We share a big bed and I love to snuggle up against her at night, especially when it's very cold. Sometimes I crawl under the duvet for a nice cuddle.
8 Heal each other My purrs heal my mum, but she also gives me Reiki healing which is great for me too.

9 Take lots of selfies together

10 I like to lick my mum's hand and arm, as you can see from this video.

Wordless Wednesday Naughtiness

Oops... you've caught me in the act!

When I'm not busy being a goddess, sharing my wisdom, modelling for my mum and being her purry furry healer, I do crazy things like this...

Can you guess what it is I'm doing?

Melt Your Heart Monday

Here are two cats 'in love'. We weren't sure about posting this video, as I think these guys can do with some privacy, but as it's Valentine's Day soon we thought it's too lovely not to share.

 Have a great week everyone!

Caturday Art

As Mum has been rather busy this week we have used PhotoFunia again for our photo art, and we've got two photos for you this weekend!

In this first one I was painted by an artist, which is one of my dreams!

And since PhotoFunia allows us dreamers to dream, how about this one as well. Our first magazine interview!

Hmm... from the style of jeans and shoes the woman reading the magazine is wearing, it looks like we've been transported back to the 80s...

How Domestic Cats Spread Around the World: Part 2

As we saw in Part 1 of this article, being a cat appears to have been a great and charmed existence for thousands of years. But the Middle Ages soon saw an end to that. Viewed as agents of the devil by the Church, bad things started to happen to felines.

Bad things happened to our humans too, and other kind souls who befriended us. These poor people were seen as witches, and us cats as their familiars. Which is just ridiculous isn't it? But that was then (though I'm afraid to say, in some parts of the world, this still happens).

Persecution of cats reached its height in the Middle Ages. Does it make you angry? It certainly does me! Just imagine if we still lived in those times? I wouldn't be here talking to you for a start. There would be NO cat blogs, NO cat Internet stars (why am I not one yet?), and NO... well... NO CATS! Mum says she would rather die if there were no cats in the world.

Unfortunately, the women who kept cats as pets, or were associated with cats in any way, met a cruel fate. Just like their cats. They were burned alive. Horrible torture! Don't get upset, Mum. It was a long time ago. Yes, I know, it may have been us back in that time :(

scary cat
During the 15th Century, while Europeans decided to colonize distant undiscovered lands such as the Americas, cats were taken on board ships as pest control yet again. Many kittens were born on these travels and when the ships reached land, many of these cat families stayed behind or were traded with local communities.

Many cats also found themselves transported to Australia in a similar fashion, but mostly on convict ships from Britain. But the good thing is cats were now almost everywhere, and about time too! Though our popularity was again beginning to soar, apparently it wasn't until the 19th Century that people started to keep cats as pets. Also, in Europe and the United States, imports of exotic-looking cats began to interest many. No longer were cats just vermin control, we were once again admired for the great and godly beings we truly are. Cat clubs were formed, called cat fanciers clubs, and then these people decided to put on shows to show off their good-looking feline "prized possessions". Breeding of pedigree cats soon saw new breeds popping up everywhere, like the ones we see today.

I for one am so glad we beautiful felines are once again being worshipped! Long may it continue!

Graceful and elegant

Melt Your Heart Monday

Here's another cute kitty video to melt your human's hearts today.

Happy Monday!

Giveaway! Free Tarot Reading For Your Pet!

NEW MONTHLY GIVEAWAY!

I think I mentioned this before. Mum likes to read Tarot cards. She does not consider herself an expert, but it's been a hobby of hers for years and years.

For some time now she has had this idea of giving Tarot readings for pets. However, she feels she is a little rusty in her reading abilities (though I don't think so myself), and so she has decided it's best to get some practice in just to gain a little confidence. Now, being the wise kitty that I am, I thought it would be a great idea to have a monthly TAROT GIVEAWAY and mentioned it to her. Of course Mum said it sounds 'purrfect'.

Each month ONE LUCKY WINNER will receive a FREE TAROT READING for their pet. Yes, it says Tarot Cat on this photo, but we don't want any of our other furry friends missing out!

Tarot Cat

And guess what? Mum is going to use her new cat tarot deck for the readings!

To enter, please follow instructions at the bottom of this post.

The winner will by notified by email and you can then give Mum the info she requires, such as the name of your pet and a photo. You will receive the reading by email, and if you like, you can agree to have it published here on this blog. But that is entirely up to you.

These are the questions that will be answered in the reading:
  1. Is there anything in my pet's past my pet would like me to know about? How is my pet's past affecting him/her now?
  2. Is my pet trying to tell me something? How does he/she feel at present?
  3. What does my pet require from me and is there anything I can do to make his/her life better?

***Disclaimer: For entertainment purposes only. If you suspect your pet is unwell, please seek veterinary assistance as soon as possible.***
