Mother's Day Selfie #catmum

Happy Mother's Day UK!

Here's a Sunday Selfie with my dear Mum. We are taking care of each other as well as looking after my Granny.

Here's a video of us before taking a nap yesterday...

💚💚💚

We are worried about how animal shelters are coping, especially the small local ones.

If you are able to, please consider donating to your local animal shelter. They need help too to survive in this strange time we are living in. We understand that some charities are suspending pet adoptions for the time being, or visits to their sites are by appointment only. Some are asking for fosterers or maybe you can sponsor an animal that is currently at a shelter.

With countries on lockdown, it's also very worrying for the street cats who rely on locals and tourists to feed them. Like these precious little ones in Athens, Greece. If anyone is local to the area, maybe you can help?

.

Where is everyone? Dear friends, with everything closed at the historic center of Athens dozens of stray cats are getting hungrier by the day. We are in need of local feeders, if you live in walking distance please help. Thank you 3 Quarters Design for helping out. Our food needs are huge these days. Thanks to Gold-D Greece there is a page to raise food that will be shipped directly to us. https://gold-d.co.uk/Support-9-lives.html ———- Αγαπητοί φίλοι, με κλειστό το ιστορικό κέντρο της Αθήνας δεκάδες αδέσποτες γάτες δεν βρίσκουν τροφή. Wordless Wednesday: What Are Your Looking At?

💚

We hope all our friends in Texas are OK. We have seen the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey on the news here in England and we cannot stop worrying about the animals and their humans affected by this disaster.

Sending purrs to all those affected xxx

Adopt a Cat #charitytuesday

Today it is not only Charity Tuesday but also Giving Tuesday.

So let's help these cats out and find them a forever home. If you can donate to Wood Green the Animal Charity (where I was rescued), or any charity of your choice, please do. Of course there are many ways to help charities and others in need so do whatever you feel you can.

Here are three lovely cats awaiting their forever home.

OLLY (photo credit: Wood Green)
This gorgeous boy is Olly. He is 8 years old and looking for his forever home. He loves being the centre of attention and is also really friendly and affectionate. He adores human company and would make a great family pet. Click HERE to find out more about this friendly guy.

ZIPPY (photo credit: Wood Green)
Zippy is a sweet and affectionate 13 year old lady, once you get to know her and gain her trust. She will then allow you to fuss and groom her for long periods of time. She has the most amazing purr and will make the best cat companion for any human that enjoys their home comforts as much as Zippy. If you would like to know more about her click HERE

DEBBIE (photo credit: Wood Green)
This lovely 4-year-old lady is Debbie, she came to Wood Green as a stray and is now looking for a nice family to call her own. She is an independent girl but loves head rubs once she gets to know you. Click HERE to find out more about her.

All proceeds from this bag and book will be donated to animals in need.

World Cat Day: Adopt Don't Shop and Rescue Don't Breed

As a rescue cat I am lucky to have the best forever home ever. I struck gold when I met my mum. For us it was meant to be. I chose her. And I made sure she was mine!

But some cats are not so lucky. That much is so evident as I watch how my mum spends most of her spare time online helping to spread the word and raise awareness for cats in need of loving homes. She has her Pinterest board - where she pins pictures of desperate cats (and other animals too) that she finds from animal shelters and blogs online and repins from the animal advocates that are sharing and helping too.

She also tweets and retweets from her Twitter and mine.

We want to raise awareness. We want to help those poor kitties stuck in shelters - some of them clearly on Death Row... so heartbreaking.... I am sad for them, but I am glad that my mum, and so many others like her - are doing their best to help. Hopefully one day no kitty will have to suffer.

Poor souls.... they just know their time is up. You can see it in their massive frightened eyes.

Please STOP breeding and buying.

Please NEUTER your cats

It's all so SIMPLE really.

A FOREVER HOME FOR ATHENA
I also want to plug my book again because we want to give something back. This is My rescue story. It's a great, moving, emotional story of my young kitty life at the animal shelter. But it is more than that. We are donating some of the royalties to cat shelters.

WHERE TO BUY THE BOOK

You can purchase A FOREVER HOME FOR ATHENA on Amazon in both eBook and paperback formats. Check out my book page for more info.

June is Adopt a Shelter Cat Month

June is Adopt a Shelter Cat Month. But why do we need an adopt a cat month?

Adopt a cat should be every day. Yes, I know that Adopt a Cat Month is to highlight the importance of, and to promote and raise awareness for cat adoption. But every animal lover (not just cat lovers) should be aware of the countless animals suffering in shelters as they await a forever home.

Some aren't lucky (spare a thought for those poor souls in high kill shelters).

As most of you know, I am a rescue cat. Mum adopted me from Wood Green, the Animal Charity in July 2011. I was only 10 weeks old. Read our story HERE

But it's not only young kittens who need rescuing.

There are so many adult and senior pets desperately seeking a home too. Imagine what it must feel like for them. Abandoned, unloved, desperate.

Please, if you are looking for a cat, you must consider adopting. DO NOT SHOP.

Remember: ADOPT DON'T SHOP and help spread the word!

My mum has this PET RESCUE board on Pinterest. Most of these cases are URGENT and as I know many of our readers are from the US you may find this board of great help if you are looking to adopt a pet from your local area.

Follow Marie Symeou's board Pet Adoption & Rescue on Pinterest.

Meanwhile, for Moggy Monday here in the UK, here are some cats looking to be adopted at Wood Green. The charity currently has 70 kittens in their care.

Charity Tuesday: Blog the Change for Animals #BtC4A

I have been a very lucky cat because I found the best forever home and human mum ever. Some cats aren't so lucky, and that's really sad.

So as it's Charity Tuesday, I've decided to blog about it to help other cats find forever homes too.

And my mum just told me that it is Blog the Change for Animals day too, so how fitting that I decided to post this today!

As an animal advocate, my mum already posts a lot about animal adoption on her blog, but I told her we should do it on mine too because I am a rescue cat, and have my own book out, A Forever Home For Athena, telling the world about my own rescue story, and which I wrote with my mum to help raise money for three of our favourite cat charities.

If you don't know much about me and haven't read my book yet, here is the very short version:

I was a little abandoned kitten who thought my life was truly over until I got rescued by Wood Green the Animal Charity. I then got taken to their London centre, and though I was very scared in there, it wasn't long before I found a forever home. You see, that's where my mum came to adopt me (after she had seen me on the Wood Green website.)

It was love at first sight for the both of us.

As I was rescued by the London shelter, I wanted to help other cats that are currently there waiting for their forever home too. I hope they are as lucky as I was and get adopted quickly into loving homes.

I know most of you are from US, but for any UK readers, if you live nearby and are looking for a new cat why not check out the Wood Green website for more information? Maybe, just like my mum and me, you will find the purrfect match for you!

Wood Green has cats available for rehoming at three of their shelters - Godmanchester, Heydon and London.

LIONESS

Description
Lioness was brought into the London shelter as her owner could no longer look after her. She is still getting used to shelter life, so is understandably a little shy and nervous. However she loves to be made a fuss off and enjoys the company of people. Lioness is looking for a home with previous cat experience who can help her blossom into a loving member of the family.
