Happy Gotcha Day!

It's my 14th Gotcha Day today!

On the 21st July 2011, Mum adopted me from Woodgreen Pets Charity and the rest is history. It was definitely love at first sight for both of us!

12th Gotcha Day Sunday Selfie

It's my 12th Gotcha Day on 21st July. I got adopted by Mum Marie from Wood Green in the summer of 2011 when I was just 10 weeks old. I had been abandoned in someone's garden and this amazing charity rescued me. They took care of me until I was ready to find a forever home. And the rest is history!

You can read about it in my book.

Happy 11th Gotcha Day To Me!

21st July 2011 is the day I got adopted. Mum saw a pic of me on the Woodgreen website and came to see me the next day. It was love at first sight and the rest is history! How could she resist me anyway? I was such a cute little tabby kitty!

Mum put together this video for you to watch and enjoy. Just some clips of me as a kitten and other highlights. Visit my youtube channel to see more videos of me and subscribe!

If you are visiting my blog for the first time and want to know more about my story you can read about it in my book A Forever Home For Athena.

See The Light For Pet Adoption #RememberMeThursday

I've shared my rescue story many times on this blog, and many of you may know that Mum and I wrote about it in my book A Forever Home For Athena.

Here is the short version of my rescue story in honour of Remember Me Thursday.

I was found abandoned in someone's garden as a kitten in the summer of 2011. Wood Green The Animals Charity took me in and cared for me until they put me up for adoption when I was 10 weeks old. At the time, Mum had been searching her local pet shelters online for adoptable kittens.

She had wanted a cat for a long time and it took a while to find me, but then she saw this little face and went to see me at the shelter the very next day.

This is the photo that was posted online. Mum saw it and went to the shelter to enquire about me. It is now framed on our bedroom wall.

It was love at first sight for both of us. I wanted Marie to be my Mum. In fact, I knew she was my mum as soon as I saw her.

So two days later she took me to my forever home and we love each other so much!

Happy 10th Gotcha Day To Me!

 It's my 10th Gotcha Day today 😻

I got adopted from Wood Green, The Animals Charity on 21st July 2011. It only seems like yesterday!

Here I am with Mum a couple of days after I got adopted. We look so much younger, especially me. I was just over 10 weeks old here.

What a cute kitten I was!

Check out this video Mum filmed on her then phone - a Blackberry. Remember them? I felt at home straight away and jumped onto Mum's lap for love and cuddles.

You can read my book A Forever Home For Athena if you haven't already to find out about my rescue (though some of it is fictionalized as Mum doesn't really know what happened to me before she adopted me other than I was found abandoned in a garden and got taken to the shelter).

National Tabby Day and Adopt A Shelter Pet Day #caturdayart

 Happy Caturday😻

tabby cat

The art today was created using BeFunky. Mum forgot which effects she played with but it was probably a mix of Underpainting and either a light touch of Cartoonizer DLX or a light touch of Oilpanting DLX.

Here is the jigsaw

Friday 30 April is National Tabby Day, and since we post our Caturday Art blog on Friday night (here in the UK), and no longer do a Feline Friday post, we just had to celebrate this special day somehow - so here we are doing just that!

April 30th is also National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day and as a rescue kitty myself, I love advocating for pet adoption (and Mum does too). There are so many lonely and sad homeless pets all over the world and they deserve a loving forever home.

So please, if you are wanting a pet, please try to adopt don't buy.

Most of you will know my rescue story but here is the short version.

I was born in May 2011 (my birthday is next week) and was found abandoned in someone's garden as a tiny kitten. The wonderful Wood Green, The Animals Charity took me in and looked after me until I was ready to find my forever home. It wasn't long until my Mum Marie came along after seeing me on the charity website. We met - touched finger to paw through the mesh - and it was instant love. I wanted her to be my mummy!  On July 21, when I was just over 10 weeks old, I went home with my new mum and the rest is history!

You can read my rescue story here. The early part of the book is a fictionalized account of what happened to me before Mum came into my life.

Always Adopt If You Can #RememberMeThursday

Remember Me Thursday Graphic

Please always adopt pets if you can. There are so many animals in shelters everywhere waiting and waiting for forever homes. Some wait for ages, some never find a home and some sadly are put to sleep (which is so disgusting by the way 🤬)

Every animal deserves love and care 💟

And animals are capable of giving so much 💗💖 and more back!

For example, Mum needed me and I needed her, and we rescued each other.

I came along a few months after Mum lost her dad. On September 30th it is actually the 10-year anniversary since he passed.

Mum has always suffered from depression and anxiety and so took his death really bad. She had wanted a cat for ages up to that point, but after the heartbreak of losing her beloved tuxedo girl Suzy in 1998, she couldn't bring herself to let another furry soul into her heart. For years, she focused instead on her studies and writing.

Anyway, fast forward to  July 21st, 2011, the best day ever for Mum and me - she went to Wood Green, The Animals Charity to adopt me!

She had seen me two days before on the charity's website.

I was at the shelter because I had been abandoned as a kitten. I was found in someone's garden and had been taken to Wood Green. They took care of me and soon I was up for adoption. As soon as Mum walked to my pen I started climbing the wire mesh door. She had come for me, I knew it. I had chosen her after all!

And the rest is history.

Here's baby me on the day I got adopted sitting on Mum's lap at home. I was just over 10 weeks old.

About International Cat Day

International Cat Day will unite cat lovers across the globe in a celebration of cats – an opportunity to share our passion for cats and learn more about this fascinating species. The day will highlight that there is no ‘one size fits all’, and just as there are cats that thrive as pets, others will never adapt to living alongside humans, no matter how much love we give them. Cats are individuals and this International Cat Day we want all cats to be happy cats – pets as well as unowned, indoor and outdoor, pedigree and moggy. - internationalcatday.org
