Wordless Wednesday: National Cat Day

As it's National Cat Day today we thought we'd highlight the plight of many homeless pets in this not so wordless post.

Of course cats are celebrated each and every day in our house, and in between taking care of and pampering me, Mum does a little every day to help homeless and orphan pets by tweeting and retweeting for them, as well as pinning to her special Pinterest board. She wishes she could do so much more, like running her own cat sanctuary where no cat will have to die, and one day she hopes she will be able to do just that.

As a rescue kitty myself, I feel the need to help other homeless and orphaned animals too so I tweet for them on my own twitter as well. It's heartbreaking, but the truth is there are just too many cats in need of forever homes and not enough homes available. Spaying and neutering helps to keep the birth rate low, but it's also important for humans to adopt and don't buy. It really is true that so many shelter cats will die if they are not re-homed. So, please, please, please try your local rescue shelter when you are considering getting a pet and don't be tempted to buy.

Don't Buy While Shelter Cats Die

So many animals need forever homes now!
Follow Marie Symeou's board Pet Adoption & Rescue on Pinterest.
I am also plugging my book again because I want you to know that ALL royalties are now going towards three of our fave cat shelters. It's only 99c!

Read about my own rescue in this special book I co-wrote with my mum to help raise funds and awareness for rescue cats and pet adoption.

The Dangers of Halloween for Cats

Our humans may be looking forward to Halloween but are we? Let's face it, at this time of the year things can get a little nasty for cats, especially black cats, and we can often be the targets of cruel pranks.

So, what do we say to that? Keep cats inside! That's right. Even those kitties that like to go outside, you must listen to your guardians and stay in. Why? Well, I don't like to scare anyone, but it's a fact that there are some not-so-nice people about. Not everyone loves cats, and cats, especially black cats, can be at risk around Halloween. Mum says that there are evil individuals out there that think it's cool to torture and kill cats. And in England around this time there is also Bonfire Night (Guy Fawkes night) to contend with. Lots of fireworks going off everywhere - far too noisy for me!

Did you know that many animal shelters refuse to adopt out black cats during the entire month of October? Yes, the fear that harm will come to them makes many shelters decide not to rehome black cats around the time of Halloween, and good on them, I say! Think for a moment. Some sicko may only want the cat to go with their costume and may either return the cat to the shelter after Halloween, or toss it out in the streets like some unwanted toy. Or even worse - torture it. Yes, there are even some sadists that will be on the lookout for sacrificial cats. You just don't know who lives in your neighbourhood (especially in a city or large town). You must always be wary.

Don't forget that if your humans are going to open the door to every trick-or-treater, you must make sure to stay in a secure room that your human must have prepared for you in case you suddenly decide to bolt out the door. Why you would want to do that when you are so comfy and well-looked after during a night like this is beyond me. But, being of curious nature, cats will do anything! Don't forget that chocolate and candy is bad for cats too, so stay away and also refuse any offerings from any human who is ignorant to this fact, and children too. Humans - tell your kids not to give them out to pets too!

Other things for cat guardians and parents to remember:

Don't dress up an animal in Halloween costume. Luckily, Mum is not a fan of dressing up pets, but you may think differently. However, please stop and think how you would feel if someone came along and dressed you up in some ridiculous costume without asking you. Not nice is it? It can be dangerous too. Costumes that are tightened with rubber bands can cut off circulation. Some may even be flammable and can catch alight easily with all the candles and Jack O' lanterns about, which your pets must keep away from too, regardless if they are in costume or not.

Also, dear humans, please try not to scream and screech. Think of your cat's sensitive hearing (and Mum's). It's nice to have fun but not nice to be selfish and cause others distress whilst doing so. Some cats can really freak out with all the screaming kids in costume prowling though the street and banging on doors - some who may even have intention to harm. Yes, you never know who is hiding behind that Scream mask.

Other than that, Mum and I hope you and your humans have a great and safe Halloween!

Wordless Wednesday

Are you right or left pawed?

Mum says I'm left pawed, as you can see from this video of me drinking water from my own mug that I chose myself. It used to be Mum's but I kept drinking her water from it so in the end she gave it to me. I don't drink from a bowl. I don't like it. Maybe being a goddess has something to do with it :)

Happy Caturday!

For today's Caturday Art we used PhotoFlexer Mum didn't do much to this photo other than crop and resize it and then she added the Ink Stamp effect. Looks pretty cool, doesn't it?

Melt Your Heart Monday

Marie: How cute is this, Athena! Cat mummy and kitten hug. Aww...
Athena: Reminds me of you and me, Mum.
Marie: I know, sweetie. That's why it melts my heart so...

Athena: That's so sweet. Purrs xx. How about another video today?
Marie: Why not?
Athena: How about this trailer of the new series of the Supervet, which is back on our screens here in England on Wednesday. I know how much you love that show, Mum. I'm not so keen of course (and many kitties will understand this - just the mere mention of the word vet is super scary for us).
Marie: I know, sweetie. And I'm the most squeamish human ever to exist, as you know, but I can't help but love this programme. Noel Fitzpatrick is amazing and his passion for animals and what he does is extremely heartwarming to watch. He truly has an understanding for the human-animal bond.
Athena: I have to agree, Mum. With some vets I've encountered you just don't get that, but this man is different. He is so passionate about what he does (and he is very nice, I give him that) I suppose you could say he is an angel -  an animal angel just like you and many of our pet blogger friends and lots of other animal lovers around the world.
Marie: I think he's remarkable and his staff are too - from what I've seen in the documentary. And I love watching how humans and animals love and appreciate him too. There is just so much love and compassion going round. It's incredible. Hey, Athena, I've just had a thought. Wouldn't it be great if we could interview Noel Fitzpatrick for this blog? I suppose it won't happen though, just as it can't happen with Ian Somerhalder and Jackson Galaxy. Oh, and James Bowen (and Bob of course!) and many other famous cat-loving humans. Our blog just isn't famous enough.
Athena: You mean I'm not famous enough? Come on, Mum. Don't let it get you down. I know it's Monday morning but look on the bright side. Our blog is getting so many new visits now! It'll happen. How could it not? I'm a beautiful goddess cat! I'll make it happen. And you will have your dream of a cat sanctuary soon, don't you worry about that. Now here's the Supervet trailer for the new series to cheer you up.

Marie: It doesn't really cheer me up, sweetie. I just hate seeing animals suffer. It tears me up inside.
Athena: But you are looking forward to watching, aren't you? Something to fill the void left on Wednesday night after your fave show Our Zoo ended last week?
Marie: Yes, you are right, Athena. Of course I am looking forward to it. It's only four episodes, though. It'll fly by.
Athena: Oh, Mum, you always find the downside in everything!
Marie: You are so right. But I can't help it, sweetheart.
Athena: Come on, Mum. Let me sit on your lap and give you extra purrs today. I can see that you need it. And then we can have a nice afternoon nap together to make up for my waking you up at 5am.

Sunday Selfies/Black and White Sunday

Mum would like to thank everyone who downloaded her cat memoir The Cat Years: How My Cat Soulmates Saved Me during its free promo. She hopes you enjoy reading it. Perhaps you would like to leave a review on Amazon? She would really appreciate it if you would and it might help us sell more copies of my book A Forever Home For Athena (royalties will be donated to cat rescue).

Anyway, now that's out of the way, here is our Sunday Selfie, which again is in black and white for Black and White Sunday as well.

There is also another black and white photo of me at my mum's blog Purrs Full of Love

Caturday Art: We Love Autumn!

Autumn is the best time of the year and so to celebrate this magical season (and magical month of October) here is myself merged with autumn leaves. Mum thinks the colour of my eyes fits purrfectily. She used PicJoke.net to create this photo art.

Wordless Wednesday Wisdom

Always pretend you are staring at something on the wall or ceiling when your human/guardian/parent wants to take yet another photo of you. It makes a great pose, but can also make them think you are bored (which you probably are by now).

Sorry to keep plugging my mum's memoir, but it is FREE and we wouldn't want you to miss your chance
of downloading it! It's also the last day it will be free so get over to Amazon and download it on your Kindle or other device NOW! If you don't have a Kindle device, don't worry, as you can download one of these free Kindle apps to start reading Kindle books on your tablet, computer and smartphone right away!)

Melt Your Heart Monday

Yes, Monday is here again unfortunately, but here's a video we found that we think will really warm your heart and make you smile :)

 Enjoy!

Mum would look to say a big thank you to those of you who downloaded her cat memoir THE CAT YEARS: HOW MY CAT SOULMATES SAVED ME yesterday. Don't worry if you haven't yet as it will remain free until Thursday so there's still time! But please don't forget as we believe the more downloads it has, the more it'll help raise awareness for my own book A FOREVER HOME FOR ATHENA, which in turn will help rescue animals as we are donating the proceeds from that book to our fave animal shelters.

Have a great Monday!

Caturday Art

Mum's favourite colour is purple so she turned me into a purple cat for today's Caturday Art. I think it looks good but I'd rather stay the beautiful brown tabby that I am :)
