World Snow Leopard Day #CaturdayArt

23rd October is World Snow Leopard Day, a day to celebrate this magical, mystical, majestic but endangered cat and help raise awareness for its protection and conservation.

Sadly the beautiful snow leopard (Panthera Uncia) is facing a number of threats, one of them being poaching.

Between 2008 and 2016 alone, one snow leopard has reportedly been killed and traded every day - 220 to 450 cats per year, probably more. Snow leopards are hunted for their fur and bones. (https://snowleopard.org/the-threats/)

Climate change also poses a threat due to the loss of habitat and prey.

The Snow Leopard Trust is committed to protecting this endangered animal and its mountain ecosystem. Founded in 1981 in Seattle, USA, by the late Helen Freeman, The Snow Leopard Trust is the oldest snow leopard conservation organization in the world.

Check out the Snow Leopard Trust website to find out more.

This is stunning art from The Snow Leopard Trust Instagram account that is being virtually auctioned to help raise money for the protection of snow leopards.

And now to our Caturday Art! Mum wanted to make me look like a snow leopard. Well, obviously she failed so she went for this blueish cold wintery themed art filter instead. It's actually Cyanotype, which looks great!

And this pen art is quite wintery too.

Read a Book Day Feline Friday Friendlies and Flashback

Today is Read a Book day and so it's the purrfect excuse for us to plug our books. Yes, at least we're honest 😁😸

Here's a flashback of the very first promo graphic for my rescue story A Forever Home For Athena. It's not a great image, but Mum was too busy writing to have enough time to devote to her photography then. She also had a rubbish mobile phone.

Published in 2013, with partial royalties going to 3 of our fave animal charities, A Forever Home for Athena is available on Amazon. In recent years we began to donate 100% of the royalties. Unfortunately, it hasn't sold that many copies as we'd hoped and so has failed to raise much-needed donations for our chosen charities.

Mum's upset about that of course, but then she gets upset over a lot of things. She's been quite down again lately.

Back in 2013 looking so much younger

Mum helped me write the book. She has written many other books as well.

Check out her books here. Not all of them are about cats but most do feature cats in them at some point.

Here is a promo for Mum's cat books. This graphic was made for a Caturday Art post back when we were living in London.

If you are looking for cat and pet books by other authors we've provided an affiliated Amazon link at the bottom of this post for you to browse and perhaps buy. No pressure.

MARIE

1. I joined The Cats Protection in 2010.

2. I wish I'd asked my late dad more about his life in Cyprus. He came to England in the late 1950s and so did my mum later. They met and got married in the 60s in London. I enjoy learning about history and I'd love to find out more about my Greek heritage.

3. My love of cats and animals had the biggest impact on who I am today.

4. Sweden is the most beautiful place I have ever been. I love Scandinavia and would love to visit Finland too. Sweden is my kind of place with amazing scenery, forests and natural landscapes. Essex, where I live now is pretty lovely too. I'm so glad I finally moved out of London.

ATHENA
1. I joined my forever home in July 2011.

2. I wish I'd asked Mum about her younger days. She doesn't tell me much.

3. Wood Green, the Animals Charity, and my mum had the biggest impact on who I am today. If this amazing charity had not rescued me I wouldn't be here today and I certainly would not have met my mum.

4. My home is the most beautiful place I have ever been.

Autumn Art and We Love Memoirs Day #caturdayart

Happy Caturday!

Well, it's cooler than last week but still quite warm. Hard to believe that it's autumn tomorrow.

From now on you will see a lot more autumn-themed art because it's Mum's favourite season.

Here are some autumn tones for you today. Both were created with LunaPic. We are not sponsored for mentioning this great editor, we just like to use it quite regularly for our blog art and so we wanted to share.

This is the Geometric and Landscape art filters together but Mum toned them down a bit to create her own artwork.

This one is the Geometric art filter on its own.

Before we go, we heard it's We Love Memoirs Day.

Mum enjoys reading memoirs. She's also written one herself as regular readers of this blog may already know. It's not a new book as it was written some few years back. It's no best-seller but we thought we'd give it a mention. It's called The Cat Years: How My Cat Soulmates Saved Me  No need to tell you what that's about, hey?

Mum has always been a sensitive soul and not very good with humans. She hasn't had much luck in human relationships and she's had a lot of depression and anxiety throughout her life. But her cats have always helped her cope and she truly believes we are her soulmates. It was published in 2013 and there is so much more to tell that she may well write another memoir one day.

She's gone right off writing though so it might not be for some years yet.

Do your humans like to read memoirs? If so, what are their favs? They don't have to be animal-related, although they are usually the best!

Leave Me Alone Selfie

I wouldn't take a selfie because I was chilling out on this lovely cushion on the sofa so Mum decided to take it instead. I look quite annoyed, don't I?

tabby cat sitting on cushion with ears pricked back and folded paws

So would you be if all you wanted was to take a quiet nap in the early hours and your human interrupted you.

Today, as usual, we are participating in The Cat on my Head's Sunday Selfie blog hop.

And we are also joining the Friendly Fill-Ins hop, which is hosted by Four-Legged Furballs and 15andmeowing.

The Questions

1. A past event that I would like to see in person is __________________________.
2. If I were a dog, my breed would be ________________________.
3. If I came with a warning label, it would say the following: _________.
4. I would want to take _________ with me to a deserted island.

Marie

1. A past event that I would like to see in person is Live Aid at Wembley in 1985. I watched it all on TV of course, with my little kitten Suzy, who was only a few weeks old, but I would have loved to have been present and preferably backstage! On stage would have been fun too :)
2. If I were a dog, my breed would be a Golden Labrador or blue-eyed Husky.
3. If I came with a warning label it would say the following: Moody and don't mess with her cat!
4. I would want to take Athena with me to a deserted island.

Athena

1. A past event that I would like to see in person is when Mum saw me online and decided to come and adopt me.
2. Sorry, quite happy being a cat, thanks.
3. If I came with a warning label it would say the following: Careful as she does hiss if you anger her.
4. I would want to take Mum and lots of treats with me to a deserted island.

Sunday Selfie, Father's Day and a #FreeBook

This post contains affiliate links. If you make a purchase through these links I make a tiny bit of money to help pay for this blog.

In my selfie for today, I am perched up high on my scratching post awaiting more adoration from my public (and Mum).

Speaking of Mum, her book Frozen in Time is FREE on Kindle again. She figured all the hard work of writing her books, especially this historical vampire trilogy did not pay off and she did not become the successful author she had hoped to be. With that idea, she told me the other night that she might as well give it away since no-one is willing to pay for it. Self-published in September 2011, the novel (and trilogy) took her years to write, plus years and years of research. It was a story inspired by two of her favourite movies Interview with the Vampire and Bram Stoker's Dracula (which starred the excellent actor Gary Oldman) and of course the Hammer films starring Christopher Lee which Mum loved to stay up late and watch as a young girl. Her dad though actually had a phobia of watching any of the Dracula films. Funnily enough, some people thought he had a passing resemblance to Lee.😻

Today is Father's Day of course. Mum is thinking of her late dad, who passed away in 2010 before he got the chance to read any of Mum's books or to meet me. Mum misses him, even though their relationship wasn't all that great. They sort of made up when he got ill though. From the photo below, you can tell she adored her daddy as a young girl.

Hugs and purrs to anyone missing their father today xx 💚💓

Wordy Wednesday: #ReadaBookDay

Read a Book Day

Yes, it's a wordy Wednesday today, instead of a wordless one because we are celebrating Read a Book Day.

As you know, Mum is a writer and has written 3 cat-related books. She says she will write more when she has the time and is stress-free. Hopefully, the move to a quieter, greener area will help.

A new memoir is also on the cards. She has just started writing it though so it may be a while before anyone will get to see it in print.

Mum also loves to read. She is a voracious reader. It keeps negative thoughts at bay, she tells me. Reading is great. Of course, kitties can't read (apart from minds), but we love being read to. So go ahead and read to your fur babies today (dogs too!).

What about your humans? Do they love to read? And what kind of books do they like? Do they read to you, dear furriends?

Mum's cat books are available on Amazon.

Read them if you haven't already. They are great reads. Please leave a review too as they are so very important for self-published authors. Maybe it'll get Mum out of her glum mood to see that people appreciate her work more.
