A Forever Home For Athena was published in 2013. The book is based on Athena's real-life story, but for creative purposes the chapters prior to when her mum Marie adopted her from Wood Green, The Animals Charity are fiction. Athena was indeed abandoned in someone's garden in North London though, and she shared a pen with a black kitten called Lily at the shelter. At the time of publication, we donated a percentage of the royalties to pet rescue charities. But for some years now ALL royalties will be donated.

After the filming of Storytime Chapter 9, Mum took the opportunity to snap some selfies of us together. I was still so sleepy that I just went along with it.

So she experimented with some artsy effects to improve it a little.

Happy Birthday to Me and Charity Tuesday Commentathon

Happy 8th Birthday to me!

Can you believe that I'm 8 years old? No, neither can we. To Mum, I'm still her baby girl. And I like being her baby! But I'm an independent kitty goddess too, and wise with it, like my namesake.

Kitty Karma Cat Tales #ThursdayThoughts

As animal rescue advocates, we just had to share this wonderful crowdfunding campaign from Kitty Karma Books which aims to cover publishing and production costs for Kitty Karma: Big Stories of Small Cats Who Change Our Lives. Proceeds from book sales will go directly to benefit three needy cat shelters. 

Cat tales fund shelters for abandoned, unwanted felines in need

The campaign began October 1 so it's not too late to donate. Your donation will help raise funds to cover publishing and production costs of Kitty Karma: Big Stories of Small Cats Who Change Our Lives.  The pre-campaign is now live and affords opportunities to sign up and receive 10% discount on campaign contributions.

The book’s collection of stories, donated for free by nearly two dozen authors, will feature tales of adventure cats and feral cats; cats who are sailing on high seas off the coasts of New Zealand and Mexico; and a cat sanctuary located in a war zone. Readers will learn about a popular cat café in Ontario, Canada as well the first cat café in India.

The book will be published and available for sale in November. All net proceeds from book sales will be donated to support three incredible cat shelter charities – Il Gattaro D’aleppo in Syria, Abay Kitties of Hawaii, and Whangatamata CAT in New Zealand.  

What is the book about?

It's Here! Completely Cats - Stories With Cattitude

We're so excited that my rescue story has been included in Completely Cats - Stories with Cattitude!

This book has been put together by author Beth Haslam and commissioning editor Zoe Marr,  both passionate cat lovers who wanted to use their skills and talent to do something to help felines in need around the world. They chose International Cat Care as their designated charity because of its mission and global reach.

We were pretty excited when Beth and Zoe contacted us on Twitter a while ago asking if we would consider contributing an abridged version of my rescue story A FOREVER HOME FOR ATHENA for their fantastic project. Of course, we said yes and Mum got to straight down to work on editing my story to make it shorter for the book. We were so happy it got accepted!

And now, after months of hard work gathering story contributions from all the cat lovers, writers and owners around the world, the book is finally here and published today and it is definitely a book that all those involved with should be proud of!

As you can see, we have another Greek goddess on the blog today.

Her name is Artemis.

In Greek Mythology, Artemis is the Goddess of the Hunt. She would have been my sister (though Athena was aways Zeus' fave daughter.) 

But I promise that you won't see any sibling rivalry here as I'm going to be nice today. You see, as a rescue cat, I've agreed with Mum that our mission is to help other rescue cats.

Artemis is a pretty black and white cat who "marches on the spot and loves a fuss". She likes a quiet household but also enjoys exploring the outdoors. True to her name, she is a talented hunter who will reward you with presents!

It's Our 5th Blogoversary! Let's Celebrate! #commentathon

We've been blogging for five years now. Can you believe that?

And it's been quite an amazing, awe-inspiring journey. We've learned a lot in five years. Well, Mum has. I'm a cat so I'm wise already. 

Mum says she's been tremendously inspired by all the fantastic pet bloggers who not only take the time to write such informative posts, but are also such nice people who really love their pets. We are both happy to have you all as blogging pals and furriends. 

It's incredible really, this blogging world, isn't it? Pet bloggers really are the bestest bunch of people in the universe: friendly, welcoming, warmhearted, and let's not forget very creative. We have been inspired by each and every one of you. 

To celebrate our 5 year blogoversary Mum is going to make a donation of £1 for every comment made in this post to Wood Green The Animals' Charity, the amazing charity who rescued me when I was a homeless kitten dumped on the streets. UPDATE: COMMENTS ARE NOW CLOSED

HERE IS OUR VERY FIRST POST

Hi, this is my first post. Mummy said I should have my own blog so here I am. My name, as you of course know, is Athena. It was my mummy's idea. She says it's because she has always loved that name and she wished she had been called that instead of Marie. She dreamed of giving it to her daughter one day, but as she hasn't got a human daughter, she gave me that name instead, I am of course her daughter too, just a feline one. I know she prefers cats to humans, anyway.

The idea of cat goddess is of course Mum's. She always calls me her little goddess, and let's face it, that's how she treats me, and I love it. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Here's me with Mummy back in July when I was a baby. It was taken during my first week with her. Look how happy she is. I love her so much. She had been having a hard time lately, so I'm so glad I have made her smile properly. A real smile reaches the eyes, and as you can she, she is smiling with hers and not just with her lips.
