This lovely lady is Whiskers. Whilst a little nervous to begin with, she is very quick to trust and is extremely affectionate! If you speak to her softly she will be out of her bed and straight onto your lap. She enjoys a good fuss and will show her excitement with a loud purr.  DON'T FORGET THE KITTIES OF CYPRUS 

As a UK pet blogger, Mum does her best to support British animal charities but that doesn't mean she doesn't want to help raise awareness for international animal charities. Whilst it's impossible to help every charity and animal in the world, she can at least do a tiny bit to bring attention to the smaller charities that are less known and are in need of help.

Being of Greek Cypriot descent herself, Mum cannot stop thinking about the homeless and stray cats of Cyprus. But she is also glad there are many who want to help these poor animals and if homes cannot be found for them in their own country, these pets can be adopted from abroad.

Stevie (above) was picked up from one of the feral colonies when volunteers were trying to catch cats for neutering. He was hanging around the adults, unable to see because his eyes were so badly infected (poor baby). He was in the vet clinic for some weeks, but the eye infection was so severe that it just would not clear. He is now in foster care and is blind in one eye. As you can see, Stevie has a beautiful, soft and shiny, long-haired coat and he is very handsome! He is also affectionate and playful with his human friends too.

Charity Tuesday: Adopt a Cat #PetDay

Today happens to be National Pet Day as well as Charity Tuesday. It is a day for us all to show pets just how much we love them. We're sure most of you do this every day, but at least this is a great way of helping pets less fortunate. Like all the poor homeless animals that are stuck in shelters just waiting for the loving forever home they so deserve.

If you want a pet, visit your local rescue shelter and see about adopting your perfect little furry friend. If you can't adopt right now, then why not donate to a shelter or other animal welfare organization?

Apart from donating money, you can also donate your time, food or other supplies. You can also help raise funds for your chosen charity.

Wood Green, the Animal Charity is one of the animal charities we support. I was rescued by them and that's where Mum found me. Now I'm helping other cats find their forever home too.

Cats like Shark.

Though he is called Shark, this lovely boy isn't scary at all. In fact, he is a sweet cat, a "softie". He is also a bit like a parrot, as he loves to climb up onto your shoulder to get a better view of the world. This week is also Blog the Change for Animals, a quarterly event in which pet bloggers and animal lovers have the opportunity to write about what matters to them regarding animal friends and fur babies. 

You can write about a cause that's dear to you heart, a charity, etc, but it has to be about animals and how we can help improve their lives and welfare. We shall be linking this post on the day.

Fundraising For Animals In Need: Blog the Change #BtC4A

Hi, Athena here just jotting down some ideas to help Mum with the fund raising.

As we haven't raised quite as much money as we'd hoped from my book (why isn't it a bestseller???), Mum has decided to create some items in her Zazzle stores that are specifically for raising funds for the shelters we support. I must stress here that not all the items in our Zazzle shops are for raising charity funds because, let's face it, we need to eat and pay our bills.

Mum is telling me she hates to talk about money, and it's true because she avoids it most of the time, especially with me. But it has to be said. Honestly, I hear her moaning to other humans about it all the time (and I can read her mind) so even if she doesn't talk to me about it I know everything. Yes Mum, you can't hide anything from me, I am a cat after all. And yes, a very wise one.

Mum always moans about how much she hates having human problems and how she wishes she could just be a cat instead. Oh well, I do see her point because I don't wish to be a human either. But the thing is she has the power within her to at least learn to be calm like a cat. This is what I have been training her to do for ages, but she is so prone to anxiety, the poor woman. I love her very much and so I try to think calm thoughts for her and am always ready to supply extra purrs and cuddles for days (and nights) like that. So come on, Mum. Just be and live in the now.

Charity Tuesday: Blog the Change for Animals #BtC4A

I have been a very lucky cat because I found the best forever home and human mum ever. Some cats aren't so lucky, and that's really sad.

So as it's Charity Tuesday, I've decided to blog about it to help other cats find forever homes too.

And my mum just told me that it is Blog the Change for Animals day too, so how fitting that I decided to post this today!

As an animal advocate, my mum already posts a lot about animal adoption on her blog, but I told her we should do it on mine too because I am a rescue cat, and have my own book out, A Forever Home For Athena, telling the world about my own rescue story, and which I wrote with my mum to help raise money for three of our favourite cat charities.

If you don't know much about me and haven't read my book yet, here is the very short version:

I was a little abandoned kitten who thought my life was truly over until I got rescued by Wood Green the Animal Charity. I then got taken to their London centre, and though I was very scared in there, it wasn't long before I found a forever home. You see, that's where my mum came to adopt me (after she had seen me on the Wood Green website.)

It was love at first sight for the both of us.

As I was rescued by the London shelter, I wanted to help other cats that are currently there waiting for their forever home too. I hope they are as lucky as I was and get adopted quickly into loving homes.

Description

Lioness was brought into the London shelter as her owner could no longer look after her. She is still getting used to shelter life, so is understandably a little shy and nervous. However she loves to be made a fuss off and enjoys the company of people. Lioness is looking for a home with previous cat experience who can help her blossom into a loving member of the family.
