Helping Animals with Animal Rescue Live

Animal Rescue Live 2019

All this week on Channel 4 in the UK there is a one-hour live programme all about animal adoption and rescue.

Animal Rescue Live Supervet Special is raising awareness for the country’s animal rescue shelters and the pawmazing work that they do. Broadcast at 8pm, Mon-Fri this week (12th - 16th August), the show will encourage viewers to help in every way they can, either by donating, adopting, volunteering or educating the public about animal adoption and what adopting a rescue animal entails.

Each year around 250,000 pets end up in rescue shelters around the UK and centres are constantly in need of more support. Animal Rescue Live is a campaign bringing the nation together to fix the problem; by donating money, volunteering and, for those who can, adopting a rescue animal." - https://animalrescuelive.channel4.com/

This is the second series of Animal Rescue Live and this year the show is based at  Raystede Centre for Animal Welfare, East Sussex. The first series in 2017, which we wrote about on this blog, was based at Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter and was also presented by Professor Noel Fitzpatrick (Supervet), Steve Jones, Kate Quilton.

We've been tuning in and loving it. We are also very grateful to the team behind this show because animals need a voice.

We want more TV like this!

It's been great following the hashtag #aimalrescuelive and seeing how the kind-hearted animal-loving people have come together to help this cause by sharing and retweeting, many sharing their own rescue pet stories and pics of their dear rescue pets. Of course Mum had to share a photo of me. I mean, why wouldn't she? Ours is a beautiful story of rescue and we also wanted to mention the wonderful Wood Green, The Animal Charity who made it possible for us to find each other.

Here it is on Mum's Twitter after Monday's episode:

Animal Rescue Live with Supervet & International Cat Day!

ADOPT A SHELTER CAT!

Adopt don't Shop

It's all about animal rescue for us this week, more so than usual.

Our hero, Supervet Noel Fitzpatrick, is hosting a special week-long Channel 4 programme devoted to helping rescue pets find their forever homes.

We watched it last night and we were so impressed! We think this kind of programme should be on at least once a week in order to help more animals find their forever homes. Better a programme devoted to raising awareness for rescue pets than those silly reality shows about so-called "celebs" which most of the public seems obsessed about.

During this week, in which the show is broadcast live from the Newcastle Animal Shelter, the Supervet, Noel Fitzpatrick, joins Steve Jones and Kate Quilton as they aim to find permanent homes for the animals that currently live in the shelter. But the other great thing is that they will also help other shelters up and down the country rehome their rescue pets too. So, if you live in the UK and you're thinking about getting a new pet make sure you don't miss it!

😺

Today is also International Cat Day so let's help these beautiful rescue cats get adopted! As usual, we will share some cats from Wood Green, the Animal Charity (if you don't know by now, that's where Mum adopted me). We will forever be grateful to this amazing charity for helping us find each other.

Mum had seen a photo of me on the Wood Green website while she was searching for a rescue cat to adopt. I was a tiny kitten and had been abandoned in someone's garden and feeling sorry for myself. I really was scared and wondered if I'd ever find a new mum.

I have to say that they treat us very well at Wood Green (I was at the North London centre), but I longed for a forever home and family. Mum came in to look at me and some other kittens but it was me she chose. In fact, I chose her! As soon as I saw her I wanted her for my mummy. And the rest is history.

If you read my book, A Forever Home For Athena, you will find out all about the rescue (though some of it is fiction, only a tiny part). ALL THE PROCEEDS FROM THIS BOOK WILL BE DONATED TO 3 OF OUR FAVOURITE ANIMAL CHARITIES. It states in the book that only a portion will be donated, but now Mum wants to donate all her royalties.

Before we continue showing you some Wood Green kitties, please take a look at this urgent appeal for a cat in our area that desperately needs a forever home because his owners can't take him with them when they move home soon. If you live in North London around the Edmonton or Enfield area and you are interested in adopting an adult cat (he is 4 years old) then please read our post and contact the lady who asked us to help find a home for this handsome boy. The cat isn't hers by the way. She is an animal lover who works at one of our local estate agents and is keen to help this kitty (just like we are!)

So go ahead and check it out. But first, take a look at these 3 fabulous felines!

Macy

Macy (Photo: Wood Green)
Macy is a sweet lady who has come into the Heydon centre as her elderly owner was unable to care for her any longer. Macy likes to sit next to you whilst watching TV and will give you extra attention if she senses you are unwell. She likes to potter about in the garden. She also likes to drink from the tap! If you think you can offer her the home she deserves please check out her profile for more information.

Cookie

Cookie (Photo: Wood Green)
Sweet Cookie goes crackers for fuss and loves to play. When she really likes you she may mistake you for a rusk and give you a nibble but it's usually so gently that it wouldn't dent a wafer. For Cookie, a loving home where she has an outside space to potter and be the centre of attention would really take the biscuit. If you are interested in her please check out her profile for more info.

Lulah
Lulah (Photo: Wood Green)

This beautiful cat is Lulah. She is an outgoing, chatty cat who likes to greet you and enjoys the attention. She loves to follow you around the house too! Lulah is ideally looking for a quiet, calm home where she can snooze the day away either on your lap or somewhere else warm and cozy. She really would love a forever home so check out her profile to find out more about her!

Disclosure: I received no compensation for this post. As a rescue kitty myself I want to help other rescues find their forever home, so each week on Charity Tuesday I share adoptable cats from Wood Green, the Animals Charity (which is where I was rescued). Mum and I are so grateful to this amazing charity because without them we would never have found each other! Please note however that this post does contain some affiliate links. This means if you click on the Zazzle or Amazon links to purchase any of the items featured, I will receive a small affiliate commission.

Urgent Appeal: Cassidy is Looking for a Forever Home #adoptdontshop #cats

Someone we know who volunteers at one of our local animal shelters contacted us about this lovely boy who urgently needs a home because his owners are moving. They say they can't take him with them due to their daughter having an allergy.

We are helping to find him a new family and forever home as soon as possible. Just look at his sweet, handsome face :)
Forever Home Wanted for Cassidy
Cassidy is urgently seeking a forever home!

"Hello my name is Cassidy, I am four years old and very friendly. At the moment I live in Edmonton, North London, but my humans' daughter has become allergic to me and I need a new home. I need to live somewhere where I have access to the outside, so nowhere on a busy road and with a secure rear garden. I am in very good health with all jabs up to date and have about six more weeks to live here before my humans move to their new home. Please is there somebody out there who would like to take me on? I promise you I am a good boy and don't scratch the furniture or carpets!"

If you are interested in giving Cassidy a forever home please contact Janice at Kings 020 8350 0100 or email Janice.Downes@kings_group.net

If you can't offer Cassidy a forever home please help by sharing this post!
