Bright Green Eyes #CaturdayArt

Happy Caturday!

We've been so busy this week so we haven't been able to visit many of your blogs. Mum says she is hoping to catch up with you over the weekend.

She had the time to quickly create this artwork of me, using a cartoon filter in the paid version of BeFunky (not affiliated) and on the second photo she used free online editor Pixlr for the painterly frame effect.

Christmas Safety Tips for Cats

Christmas Safety Tips for Cats

A quick post from Mum to point out some safety tips to keep your furballs safe during Christmas and the Silly Season. It can be a hazardous time for cats so please be extra careful to prevent any harm to your cat!

CHRISTMAS TREE Cats will want to climb it - no doubt about that. Athena is a climber so we don't have a Christmas tree at all. I'd rather be safe than sorry. We're a household with no children so I don't feel we need one anyway.

If you are going to get a real tree, please be aware that they can be toxic. This is because your cat might ingest some of it - oils produced from real Christmas trees can be poisonous. Also, fallen pine needles can be ingested causing harm to your cat internally. And then there's the fertilisers and plant food if it is potted, these can cause many irritations, internally and externally.

Also, remember to ensure your tree has a sturdy base or secure it in some way to avoid it toppling over. Don’t place any presents for your cat under the tree, (catnip will entice them further). Always supervise your cat if it's anywhere near the tree and make sure to remove the cat from the room and close the door behind you to keep nosy kitty out.

DECORATIONS that are really dangly should be displayed closer to the top of the tree. All cats, especially curious kittens, will be attracted by the twinkling decorations and baubles, etc. TINSEL and other decorations can be dangerous if they are swallowed.

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS can be extremely dangerous to cats and should be used safely. Ensure that you cover any wires leading to the tree by using plastic or cardboard tubes, and also switch your Christmas lights off at the mains when you’re not home and at night.

PLANTS like poinsettia and berries found in holly and mistletoe are poisonous to cats, so keep them out of reach. Remember that LILIES are very dangerous to cats. Even brushing against them can cause harm. So AVOID, please.

IF YOU SUSPECT YOUR CAT HAS EATEN ANY POISONOUS PLANTS CONTACT YOUR VET.

FESTIVE FOODS  – chocolate and raisins to onions and garlic are poisonous to cats.

STRESS Cats can feel stressed and anxious at Christmas time. Not surprising really, as there are some many unfamiliar people coming and going and lots of noise, etc, must be quite terrifying for some cats (for me too!) Provide a quiet hiding place for your cat so they can escape the sensory overload. Keep some food, water and a litter tray in the room where you will keep your cat make sure it is out of bounds for humans, especially curious little humans!

I was sceptical at first to use a Feliway pheromone diffuser to help calm Athena (especially during our recent house move), but I believe it does work. This is my experience anyway. I know it's far too expensive but Amazon currently has it on for $15.99 (normal price $45.80)

So there you are. Hope you all have a safe and fun Christmas!

5 Catio Ideas Your Indoor Cat Will Love

5 Catio Ideas Your Indoor Cat Will Love

I am an indoor kitty and for a few years now Mum has been going on about how she will build me a catio once we move to a new house (which at the moment doesn't look like is happening anytime soon).

She's been looking at catios and cat enclosures online but they seem to be really expensive. Building one would be cheaper but she's not into DIY. There are also companies that will do it for you but again, maybe too expensive for us as I am not earning the money I should be as a cat model, influencer or ambassador. Yeah, it seems I will never be a famous kitty like some :(

Nevermind, I have all I need in life to be happy💚

So, here is a small selection of catio and enclosure ideas Mum found on Amazon UK. Now, if I had one of those it would be just pawsome!  If you have an indoor cat and want to let them safely outdoors for some fresh air, now is the time to start looking because spring is just around the corner!

The following are affiliate links so that means that if you make a purchase via them we will earn a small commission, just enough to buy me some treats maybe?

1

Sunday Selfie

Happy Sunday!

If you celebrate Easter then I hope you're having a good one. Don't eat too many Easter eggs though - and cat friends, don't eat any! Remember, chocolate is very bad for felines. Also, make sure you keep away from lilies. Tell your owner/guardian/parent/human not to have any in the house.

I think I'm going to take it easy today and let Mum eat her chocolate egg while I just take a nap. Hope I get extra treats later!

The Dangers of Halloween for Cats

Our humans may be looking forward to Halloween but are we? Let's face it, at this time of the year things can get a little nasty for cats, especially black cats, and we can often be the targets of cruel pranks.

So, what do we say to that? Keep cats inside! That's right. Even those kitties that like to go outside, you must listen to your guardians and stay in. Why? Well, I don't like to scare anyone, but it's a fact that there are some not-so-nice people about. Not everyone loves cats, and cats, especially black cats, can be at risk around Halloween. Mum says that there are evil individuals out there that think it's cool to torture and kill cats. And in England around this time there is also Bonfire Night (Guy Fawkes night) to contend with. Lots of fireworks going off everywhere - far too noisy for me!

Did you know that many animal shelters refuse to adopt out black cats during the entire month of October? Yes, the fear that harm will come to them makes many shelters decide not to rehome black cats around the time of Halloween, and good on them, I say! Think for a moment. Some sicko may only want the cat to go with their costume and may either return the cat to the shelter after Halloween, or toss it out in the streets like some unwanted toy. Or even worse - torture it. Yes, there are even some sadists that will be on the lookout for sacrificial cats. You just don't know who lives in your neighbourhood (especially in a city or large town). You must always be wary.

Don't forget that if your humans are going to open the door to every trick-or-treater, you must make sure to stay in a secure room that your human must have prepared for you in case you suddenly decide to bolt out the door. Why you would want to do that when you are so comfy and well-looked after during a night like this is beyond me. But, being of curious nature, cats will do anything! Don't forget that chocolate and candy is bad for cats too, so stay away and also refuse any offerings from any human who is ignorant to this fact, and children too. Humans - tell your kids not to give them out to pets too!

Other things for cat guardians and parents to remember:

Don't dress up an animal in Halloween costume. Luckily, Mum is not a fan of dressing up pets, but you may think differently. However, please stop and think how you would feel if someone came along and dressed you up in some ridiculous costume without asking you. Not nice is it? It can be dangerous too. Costumes that are tightened with rubber bands can cut off circulation. Some may even be flammable and can catch alight easily with all the candles and Jack O' lanterns about, which your pets must keep away from too, regardless if they are in costume or not.

Also, dear humans, please try not to scream and screech. Think of your cat's sensitive hearing (and Mum's). It's nice to have fun but not nice to be selfish and cause others distress whilst doing so. Some cats can really freak out with all the screaming kids in costume prowling though the street and banging on doors - some who may even have intention to harm. Yes, you never know who is hiding behind that Scream mask.

Other than that, Mum and I hope you and your humans have a great and safe Halloween!

Christmas Is Coming

So Christmas is coming very soon and the other day my mum began to put some decorations up (though not too many because some Xmas decorations can be harmful to cats).

Here I am inspecting this angel mobile before it goes up. It's my mum's favourite because it is a gift from her brother who now lives in Sweden and it's also quite unusual. Plus, my mum loves angels and says I'm one too :)
