Wordless Wednesday: National Microchipping Month

Hi everyone! Athena here to tell you about National Microchipping Month.

A recent survey shows that nearly half of the UK's owned cats are not microchipped. Though it is not yet a legal requirement to microchip cats in the UK, it will become compulsory for all dogs in England, Wales and Scotland from April 2016.

During the month of June there will be special microchipping offers at discounted prices for pet owners all over the country. Your local vet or local publications should have more details of offers available. 

Why microchipping is important:

• Microchipping offers a safe and permanent method of identification for your pets, increasing the chances of you being safely reunited
• Microchipping is the most effective way of identifying a lost pet
• Each microchip has a unique number. This number is stored on a national database. This chip, when scanned, reveals the owner's name and address from the database's records
• Just slightly smaller than a grain of rice, a microchip is inserted under the cat's skin between the shoulder blades
• The procedure is very simple and is no more painful than an injection. A cat will not be aware of the microchip's presence once inserted
• If you move house, you must remember to change your microchip details. You can do this by contacting your microchip database
