Today we are joining the thousands of other organizations and individuals around the globe in celebrating World Animal Day. We are proud to support this global movement to highlight the status of animals by using this special day to raise awareness for pet rescue and animals in need.
About World Animal Day
Heinrich Zimmerman organized the first World Animal Day on 24th March 1925 in Berlin and moved it to October 4 in 1929. Every year he promoted World Animal Day and finally, in 1931 at a congress of the world’s animal protection organizations in Florence, Italy, his proposal to make October 4 World Animal Day was unanimously accepted. October 4 was chosen as it’s the Feast Day of St Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals.
It's amazing that today, World Animal Day has become a global celebration for all animals and the people who love and respect them. It’s known on every continent and celebrated in different ways in many countries, with no regard to nationality, religion or political ideology.
As an animal rights advocate, Mum always tries to do her bit to help animals each day. If it wasn't for social media she would not be able to do it because Mum hates to leave the house. She has social anxiety and depression, and since COVID, her anxiety is worse than ever.
What keeps her going is me (of course!) and the need to speak up for ALL animals. It breaks her heart seeing the horrors man has inflicted and still inflicts on animals. That's why she's vegan as well. Don't worry, she won't make me vegan too as I am her main priority and she would never put me in any danger. She accepts that I'm an obligate carnivore, meaning that I need to eat meat to survive.
As a rescue cat, I too want to do my bit in helping homeless animals find forever homes. I do it through my social media too.

World Animal Day takes place on October 4, which is the Feast of St Francis of Assisi. We are so grateful to this amazing charity because without them we would never have found each other! It's also one of the main charities we support.
Tigger is a beautiful, confident lady who adores her food so unfortunately she will need to be on a strict diet. She enjoys snuggling up on your lap and is a loyal companion. There are many Wood Green pets looking for forever homes on my Mum's Pinterest Pet Rescue board, as well as other urgent homeless pets from different parts of the world.
Yesterday I was sitting by the patio door warming myself in an afternoon sun puddle. Then my Mum came up to me, and I thought at first she would close the curtain as she is such a sun-phobe, but thankfully she didn't as she knows how important it is for me to get some Vitamin D. After telling me how beautiful I am for the millionth time, she took this on her iPhone. She let me enjoy some more sun and then I got bored of it and went off to seek a more shaded place in the house for a much-needed nap. Mum then decided to add a grunge type frame to this selfie in BeFunky (I don't know why, but she is obsessed with those free online photo editors and apps).
Today is also World Animal Day. Mum says every day should be World Animal Day and I agree.
The mission of World Animal Day is to raise the status of animals to help improve animal welfare standards all around the world. It's a day which hopes to unite the animal welfare movement "mobilising it into a global force to make the world a better place for all animals." Celebrated in many different ways in every country "irrespective of nationality, religion, faith or political ideology", World Animal Day aims to create a world where animals are "recognised as sentient beings and full regard is always paid to their welfare." My animal-loving Mum and I are all for that! Mum says she will always stand up for animals and be their voice. That's why every day is animal day for her, as she does something each day to help them. I of course help her in any way I can, but my main focus is the welfare of rescue pets, especially rescue kitties, because as a rescue cat myself, I know what they are going through and how scary it is to be a homeless pet without a loving forever home. Luckily for me, I found the purrfect home with my mum Marie when I was 10 weeks old. But some cats wait ages, and some very sadly do not find a home at all. So my message here to everyone is to always adopt don't buy a pet. Check out your local animal shelter and you will find the purrfect furry companion! We know many of our blogging pals and followers speak up for animals and it is always World Animal Day for you too, so come on, let's help animals and spread the word every day and make this a safe and beautiful world for all beings!
