More Wisdom Wednesday Than Wordless
Hi everyone,
Please read on because Mum has a question for you pet parents.
You see, she often gets angry when people tell her she only loves me because she has no kids. How stupid is that?
What we wanna know is, how many of our friends in the blogosphere are parents to both fur children and human children? We are sure you love your fur babies just the same, right? And how many of you are only parents or guardians to fur children?
Mum is also not married, so she gets the crazy cat lady thing thrown at her too. I mean come on, I don't see hundreds of cats around here. She only has me. And that's the way I like it!
The truth is Mum never wanted human babies and she is at that certain age now when she is never likely to be a mum to a tiny human. But she's fine about it. She only ever feels maternal towards pets, especially cats. And you know what? I'm glad because she is the best cat mother any rescue cat could hope for. That's why I chose her!
Remember, Animals are Family!
And sometimes the love between human and animal is simply the best. it's unconditional love all the way.

We are the only children our Mom has ever had. Or really wanted to have. She's just not big on kids, really.
Other people LOVE to tell us how to live, don't they? "Why don't you have babies?" "Why don't you have a husband?" BLAH BLAH BLAH Tell 'em all to go pound sand...you are HAPPY the way you ARE! Athena is your companion; all others need not apply. I never wanted to have kids, and am delighted and in love with my kitties.
Let no one tell you how to live your life because you are the one who has to live it!
Have a wonderful Wednesday...

My human never, ever wanted kids (in fact she even hated being one!), and has not a maternal bone in her body. She sees me more as a pal and a partner (when it comes to the cat shows and therapy work) than she does parent. She never says anything but she loathes being called my "mom." She has several married-with-kids friends who also have cats (and dogs) - and their pets are treasured family members. She would not be friends with people who felt otherwise, as that is how she was raised.
The paw to hand photo really touched my heart. I have been married 43 years and have no human children. I never really wanted any, and I was advised not to have ay due to my hereditary neuromuscular disease. And I wasn't always a cat person. I had dogs before kitties, and loved them just as much as I do my cats past and present. I love my kitties way more than I like some people. I don't believe in the "crazy" tag; though, I have called myself that at times. You are a human who cares for a cat who you love and loves you in return. Life can't get much than that! Hugs, Janet and Kitties Blue
I don't have any human children either! Some people are just not meant to be parents of humans. People will always find something to gripe about. I get the crazy cat lady thing a lot too even though I am married. I think you make the purrrfect baby for your Mum, Athena! :)
The Mom wanted to haz a daughter... so her has me. -Katie Kitty Too, age 13.
Athena, your mom am the bestest. Love you two holding paws, Katie Kitty Too.
I never had biological children of my own. I have two step kids (that are adults and were adults when I came into the picture). Even if I had "human" children, my furbabies would STILL be my "kids" too catchatwithcarenandcody
We're married, and only have our beloved fur kids, Gracie and Zoe. And they are definitely 100% our children!
I don't have human kids and I chose not to because I would never part with my fur ones if the kid had allergies or something. I hate it when people say that too and just yesterday my therapist said that people without kids tend to think of their pets as kids. I am actually thinking of getting a new therapist after 6 years because he clearly doesn't get it.
My husband and I are only parents to our fur kids. And I love them as children. Regarding the no children debate, I like to say we are child free, not childless. "Less" implies that something is missing from our lives.
Just like my mum :)
Athena
You are so right!
Thanks. You too, Noodle!
I cannot stand being around people that don't like animals, but sometimes I can't avoid them. If I could I'd get my own island and just live with hundreds of cats!
I am maternal - just not with human children :)
Thanks Janet and Kitties Blue. I've always been a cat person, maybe because cats were the only pets we had growing up (and we were friends with the stays that used to visit us.)I do love dogs too, but I'm just not used to them :)
Thanks Robin. Yes, she is the purrfect baby :)
I love my beautiful fur daughter :)
I think if I had human kid too I would love both human and non-human the same :)
Aww... lovely :)
Yes, I think you should get a new one. Doesn't sound very understanding to me. After losing my dear Tuxie girl Suzy some years back, a therapist I was seeing for depression at the time told me I shouldn't be depressed over the death of a pet and to "just get another cat". Never went back after that!
You're definitely right about that! Child free and noise free because cats don't make so much noise :)
What an odd and insensitive thing to say! The number of people who think before speaking continues to amaze me. I have no idea how I would react to a comment like that. It wouldn't be pretty.

Mom has no human children - and doesn't want any. She's always said she's a better fur mom than a human mom!
I can't imagine anyone saying the only reason you love an animal is because you don't have children. Their capacity for compassion and love must be so limited.
I don't have children - not because I didn't want them but because I didn't meet my now-husband until I was older. And I don't love my pets as if they are children substitutes. I love them for the unique and wonderful beings that they are.
Athena, I think it's wonderful that you and your mom have such a deep bond. It shows was a compassionate and caring human she is and I hope she doesn't take to heart anything negative people say about how much she loves you.
