Sunday Selfie, Friendly Fill-Ins and Add us on Snapchat #EasterSunday

Happy Easter Sunday!

I hope you are enjoying the Easter holidays if you celebrate. Mum isn't the religious sort so she doesn't apart from stuffing herself with the chocolate Easter egg you will see in my Instagram photos below. Born and bred in Britain, we do follow the normal (Western) Easter, but Granny, being Greek Cypriot, celebrates the Greek Orthodox Easter, which is next weekend this year (it falls on different dates each year and sometimes it falls on the same day as the normal Easter, as it did last year.)

As a treat to all my fans and furriends, here's another Instagram photo from last week.

Athena

1. For Easter, I watch Mum stuff her face with chocolate Easter Eggs.
2. My favorite Easter treat is whatever I'm given by Mum (which means no chocolate Easter egg because chocolate is toxic to cats (and dogs.)
3. Lately, the song stuck in my head is the last thing Mum listened to (she is listening to Outlander soundtrack while she types this for me.)
4. The A-Z Blogging Challenge is something that sounds interesting but we've never had the time to participate.

Mum Marie

1. For Easter, I don't celebrate - just eat chocolate Easter Eggs (Vegan). When I was a kid, Mum used to dye real eggs with red food colouring for Greek Orthodox Easter.
2. My favorite Easter treat is Vegan Easter Eggs these days.
3. Lately, the song stuck in my head is Them Thar Chanterelles (feat. Liquor in the Well) by AURI.
4. The A-Z Blogging Challenge is great but as it's every day I won't be able to participate.

Are you on Snapchat?

Please add my mum on Snapchat if you are as she feels kind of lonely over there. She's still trying to work that app out, but if you want to catch little clips from our daily life please feel free to add her!

Me a few weeks ago: Mum, why aren't we on SnapChat yet?

Mum: Err... well I've got enough social media accounts sucking up my day as it is. And this leaves no time for creating content for the blog at all. Plus I have a million other things to do like take care of you, sweetie. You're my main priority.

Me: Well, I want you to look into it, get me an account. This is the next big thing and we need to grow our blog, don't we? I want to be a success, as I'm sure you do. And when I'm famous I'll be able to help more cats and other animals. This is what you want, isn't it?

Mum: Ok, Athena. You know best, little wise one. Maybe I should try something new, though I know Snapchat has been around for a while now. I'll look into it. Do my research and see if it will benefit us in any way.

Me: Mum, it'll be too late by then. Do it NOW! Stop procrastinating. I'm sick of seeing you moping around the house all day moaning about what a failure you are. Come on, do it. You'll never know until you try.

A few days later...

Mum: I had a look at Snapchat, Athena. It's confusing but I've managed to set up an account. It's in my name, though. Hope that's OK. It shouldn't matter really as we're a double act.

Me: I knew you would find it confusing but I'm sure you'll work it out in no time. It's gonna be brilliant and a great way to show followers some behind the scenes footage and stories about how we both come up with our blog content and loads of other fun stuff. I see so much potential in this app. It is me you'll be posting about though, isn't it?

Mum: Of course, Athena. Who else?

What is Snapchat?

Snapchat is a mobile messaging app for sharing photos, videos, text, etc. Younger people love it - older folks might not see the point of it at first (yeah, like Mum)

How does Snapchat differ from other Social Networks?

The main difference is that messages expire and automatically delete themselves after a set time (from a few seconds to up to 24 hours.)

How does the app work?

Just take a picture or video using your phone. These photos and videos are called 'snaps'. You then select friends and contacts, decide how long you want to have the message be visible for and then click send.

What are Snapchat ‘stories'?

When capturing a snap, you send it to specific users only. To make your snaps visible to the public you will need to submit them to your ‘My Story’ feed.

How do I add contacts?

To add a user, tap 'Add friends' and there will be a number of options to choose from.

'Add by username'  - Add friend by username if you know it.

'Add from Address Book'  - Snapchat scans your phone's contact list. If friends are already on Snapchat you will be presented with a list. Just tap on the name to add.

'Add by Snapcode' -  This lets you scan a picture of a user's Snapcode from your phone (mine is above.)

'Add nearby' - This scans users available within your present location who are also using 'Add nearby' within their Snapchat app.

So, that's a little bit of info for you to get started. Mum is still trying to work it out so don't worry if you don't get it straight away.

Don't forget to add us if you're already on Snapchat and/or if you decide to join!
